MPC 2500 VS. MPC 3000

Yesterday...I almost had a panic. I was listening to a John Legend CD track (I think number 2 or 3) sampled in my MPC. It sounded horrible. First I thought it was my speakers..than I realized it was the MPC 2500. I was ready to throw it out the window. Until I played the same CD in my DAW. It played back sounding just as terrible. But it appeared the MPC 2500 really picked this sound out and made it more apparent.

Anyway....I wanted to test the sound of the 2500 using another CD. I used New Edition's Heart Break. I sampled 'Can You Stand the Rain' in the MPC 2500. I compared that with playing the same CD in my DAW. They both played back practically identical. I have to note that the MPC is connected to my digital mixer via analog inputs...and my DAW is connected to the same mixer via ADAT digital outs of my RME audio card.

Why do I point this out? No special reason except to give potential MPC users the 411 on the 2500 which just received a new OS update, that adds more features that the 1000 doesn't have.

ive got whole sample folders that ive just stopped using after be able to hear how crap the samples really are on my mpc. its definately got precise converts.

why do u think if it makes it sound shittier it's more precise?

More precise may or may noty be a good word. But I do know that when I sampled the crapping sounding track, it made the poor quality stand out...

But dude...make up your mind. Keep using your dinosaur with primitive functions or step up and get one of these new bangers. Truth be told...if I only used an MPC to sample drums and a few simple loops, I would mos def still be using the MPC 3000LE. It wouldn't be a choice. But since I do more than that, the 2500 is the right machine to pick up.

I now have an mpc2500, mpc1000, mpc60 and studio 440^_- so i' mstayin in both realms lol:P so don't be hatin.

I agree with this statement. But I'm not talking about problems with "off" triggering, Im talking about the sound. The sample doesn't sound "in" the beat to me. Just my opinion

I realized this thread is comparing the 2500 and 3k ... I have a 2500 and a 60II. I've been using the 2500 to chop and record into the 60 quite a bit. I definitely dig the tonal quality that recording into the 60 offers. It's not at all gritty to my ears, more like a smoother freq response. I usually load samples into the 2500 via usb and sample into the 60 thru my neve 1073. I'm sure that's attributing to some of the warmth on top of the 60's a/d conversion. To me it all comes down to sound and workflow. There are times when I don't want to mess with sampling sounds into the 60 & i'll use the 2500. The times I feel overwhelmed with a gang of samples I'll use the 60. Other times i'll use exs or phatmatic pro in logic to get down. I do think the 3.1 OS is smoother to navigate than the 2500.

If i could only have one machine, i'd go with the 2500 but If you have the luxury of muiltiple machines you might dig what the old and new have to offer.

it depends on the music you like. If you were around when cats were using strictly MPC 60's and 3000's then your'e going to gravitate to that sound. Just like I love my old guitars because I love the kind of music that was made on vintage gear.

the good folks at akai were kind enough to send me a 2500 to test out(kudos of you people are in here).

whoever said they had sound problems with the 2500, you are probably not crazy. while i loved the machine, and all the new features, the input amplifiers had some kind of problem. at first, it would cut in and out, like a bad pot. sometimes make nasty noises. then, they just died. no inputting to be done. it was a shame i had to send it back, as i was really enjoying the other features on it-q link knob as pitch bend, and all that. real fun.

i think there may be a problem with the manufacturer of the input trannys or op amps or whatever they are using to drive the input amps in these pieces.

It may be a problem with the unit you have because I have no such issues. If I did, I would get rid of it. The MPC is the most used tool in my studio.

since there is alot of 2500 user pls tell me how to sync the mpc 2500 withe cubase sx3 pls pls pls im gettin stressed also if possible step by step sx3 not 2

i sold a limited ed 2500 to melman recently. even he has upgraded from his two 3ks.

you'd think they'd test drive the mpc they send to RJD2 before shipping it to him.

RJD2¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ i´m big fan(i have dead ringer and since we last spoke on cd and vinyl).dead ringer is clasic but my favourite it´s the second one.it´s amazing that you did those two albums using only an xl and records.
by the way a friend of me had the same problem with the 2500.
