lol its called research bro, sorry I wasn't born all knowing

of course I realise you could make many types of music on the MPC, it just seems like it would be fairly limiting for the more complex forms of electronica (glitch etc)

but yeah Im out, cheers again guys, this thread has been somewhat helpful in a retarded sort of way

I have both, get an MPC. you can use it as a controller and sampler.

No comparison

i say eff the MPD just on principal. they denied current MPC users with using the MPD to MIDI expand into a duel pad set up in the original MPD24. I'm pretty unhappy with Akai's approach as of late. Why wouldn't they have included dedicated MIDI in the 24 model? oh, because you ad JUST THAT, call it the 26 and charge another 100 bucks.

but honestly I want to know if that is even possible, to expand say an XL into a duel pad set up using the MPD26.

so, i say both, if possible.

like, maybe comparing the pads... because it might be tough since some will like the full 1x1 pads of the mpd over the 1000 pads. But anything beyond the pad comparison is pointless...

This thread should have been called "hardware mpc or software on computer with mpd?".
MPC if you like tight timing, very fast flow and stage reliability.
MPD if you really like using your computer and the sound of VST's through your computer soundcard.

You are really asking us to compare apples and oranages here !

I have owned both the MPD32 and the MPC1000, so I guess I have a partially informed opinion to give here.
I wouldn't touch the MPD range again, at least not that first generation MPD32 ( it was an utter pig, put very mildly ). At the time, I basically wanted a drum box type controller and I thought that the MPD would fit in nicely with Cubase, Neundo and Reason. On paper, it all sounded goog, but the reality of using the unit in the way that was claimed by Akai was never quite case for me ? I won't go into it too much here, but suffice to say that half of the functions on the MPD did not work at any one time and lil important things like 'Tap tempo' or 'Note Repeat' could not be used at the some time in certain modes ... Quite frankly the MPD was lucky that it didn't meet the wall at very high velocity. After faffing about with it for nearly eight weeks, I sold it at a loss and then went and bought a used MPC1000. What a difference : like that between night and day ! The MPC did everthing that the MPD should of done in the midi realm without any fuss or constant re-configuring. I still use my MPC as a midi controller to some extent even now.

However, I have heard that the newer MPD range ( the 26 and 18 ) do have slightly better software and work better straight out of the box than the original MPD32 ( however, I cannot confirm this to be entirely accurate ).

That's how it played out for me ... Hope you found some of this helpful ?

ok heres what i have to say... to even put MPD and MPC together in the form that you have, OP, is like slapping yourself in the face...

i have an mpd 24... about a month after i bought it, and seeing that the price for mpc 1000 on ebay was $300 and up, i had a total "coulda hadda V8" moment... i honestly got the mpd to hold off till i could afford an mpc, but i halfway regret the purchase...

also, Akai lied when the said it has genuine mpc pads... the feel nothin like mpc pads... besides, look at it this way... if your computer craps out on you and you clear space on your desk for the mpd and mpc and turn them both on, which one do you think will do something? someone said it was apples and oranges... maybe even apples and peas.

my point it why get the MPD when the MPC does more? You must be able to afford it so why not just get it? You said it was around $200 if you get lucky on ebay, you can get an MPC 1000 for around $350 give or take do the math. hell, you can get an MPC 2000/2000XL for $80-$200(i say $80 because i lost a bid, the guy won it for $77), but i just got one for $195 with a good screen... all im sayin is, don't settle for less when you can get more for the same price or just a lil more...

I wonder if the o.p. is convinced enough to squash the mpd notion and go with what everybody in this thread has been suggesting.

But if he's got it like that and wants to waste a few bucks, then so be it.
