My basic setup is 5k, MV, Fantom, Motif, M50, Miraslov, PT and sometimes I still pull the 4k.
Still in all honesty if it wasn't for the polyphony and memory a 1k w/ JJOSxl and something to track into would be enough.

Since I rarely get rid of anything, I try to get the most out of what I already have. Yeah, I noticed it seems to be more of a fad with folks wanting old gear and going for certain sound characteristics. But I guess if more of these folks got a little more educated in pro audio, they'll see that it's not all about the classic instruments necessarily but moreso the stuff they're going into like pre's and other front end hardware.
