It takes some getting use to when it comes to navigating on the 5k, especially if you're use to using a 4k.

Def a different landscape to work on and not some imaginative b.s. that gets floated around through hearsay.

So a novice not being able to get around on a 5k or someone not being familiar with it is Akai fault?

Good 5k is better than Broken 2kxl.Good 2kxl is better than broke 5k.Working wise i would choose 5k any day of the week. Why? FX,Sequencing resolution,Hard drive,cf card, usb, screen, filters,hd,multitrack recording, standard outs, spidif, adat,q links, synth, resampling and yes at the end of the day-sound.You have far more range sonically!!! imo The 2kxl data wheel is much nicer and the 2k classic the best. The 2 has a charm to the converters tho which the 5 can only dream about.

Nah chief, never emplied that it was anybodies fault. Just making a reference to the differences I noticed when I'm around these guys and how they (and myself) interact with their mpc's.

And the fact that hands on is way different than hearsay.

oh so now it is all those mpcs?

Man, what ever. You bought two 5000's so you gotta defend your purchase. I understand that.... but you aint the only person on the forum therefor yours aint the only opinion on which mpc to get.

4000? jjos?? none of that was in the original post... it was 2000xl or 5000... and one guy thought it may have been 2000xl or 500 so.... sorry, this aint about which mpc is the best.

My point was, me personally... I would get a 2000xl over a 5k. Yes, it has less features.... but to me the greatest feature is about a decade of proven reliability vs a forum section full of issues. You think that forum section full of issues is all lies? well thats your business. Personally, when you say you own two 5000s and you say you have never had a single problem with either of them that seems suspect. How is it you own two and never saw a single problem like every other 5k owner who only has the luxury of one 5000?

Why the smoking screen guy didn't return his unit? well he did didn't he? they sent him back a machine with the same problem. When it happened again... as he said... he didn't want to waste another 3 months and not have it fixed. How many times you gonna send it to the same place? Fixed for free, maybe that dude dont consider a few months to be free. Either way, it didn't happen to you on your two units and it didn't happen to me on the XL i used to own and it certainly didn't happen to me on the MV i currently own.

failed on me once..(well perhaps 1 time but not more then that)

screen is as crisp as from the first time I powered it on.

it is named "XL" for an reason

I also sound like an salesman..

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

A 5k jj 1k, jj 2500, or 4k all beat the 2kxl without a doubt.
For some reason there just seems to be way to many people with 5k agendas' even after all this time. :(

One the best things about being a MPC user from the days of the original is that I have always seen the same ole sh*t.

People always b*tch about a MPC having issues and problems then when a new model comes along they all of a sudden say the old one worked great and had no problems. :?:

The 60 had problems.
The 3k had problems.
The 2k had problems.
The 2kxl had problems.
The 4k had problems.
The 1k had problems.
The 2500 had problems.
The 5k had problems.
The 500 had problems.
Yet people always try to talk like there's this dramatic difference in reliability.
That's just the internet talking, nothing more.

I own/ have owned them all and never saw a perfect MP, but at the same time never saw a MP that prevented me from doing work.

You buy a MP because it fits your workflow.

One of the buggiest MP's ever is called a classic now and that's the OG 2k.
When it was first released crashing was it's specialty, but now people always talk about how reliable the OG 2k is.
I have (2) 5k's and neither has ever crashed or gave me any trouble.

Word..+1
all the 5k haters on this forum wow... you ain't know, hating is bad for you health.. the 2k is best used as a door stop in my studio. No lie, want pics!!

I have only owned and still have my 2KXL

But isn't it obvious the 5000 is superior? Isnt the whole thing with MPCs to sample music/sound back into you machine and manipulate it?

Well id say the 5000 is def better but I dont think I would ever need a one

I was just using a mpc2000 as a sequencer for a laptop at a friends house and I enjoyed it a lot. I'd like to get one, but I was wondering how it compares to the mpc500 purely as a sequencer. Is the workflow the same or close?

I don't plan on doing any sampling on it at all on it and I don't think fewer pads will bother me.

Thanks for any help!

in that price range the xl would be the best bet most likely for that thing you want to do... the 500 can do 100,000 notes and the xl can do 300,000. I hear that even though only 100,000 is possible with the 1000 and 2500 with the standard akai OS.... the jjos apparently bumps it up to 300,000 too. Anyone care to back that up since I am not 100% on that one?

You might find that very important doing a lot of midi triggering and sequencing.

2kxl any day...Ive tryed/used every mpc that exists except the 60 and still **** with the 2kxl over anything, Unless i could find the roger linn 3000 someday...I don't like any of the newer series of machines period.... Mr Debautch speaks the truth...

and does anyone remember Jus Blaze cutting up the 5000 after its release?? that was HILAROUS!

Do you mind pointing out a few differences in how the sequencer works? Is there more menu diving on the 500?

I would buy the 2000, but the screen issues worry me.
By dryad-66 Sat Oct 09, 2010 10:38 pm
The 2k is great but its limited sonically(meaning what you put in is not what you get out, which can be a good thing) and checkin out sounds on disk is pain.lovely feel tho and whatever makes you wanna play. There all different.Like guitars and women...........

I was talking about the mpc2000xl not the normal mpc2000 (aka the 2000 classic)

Obviously the 500 will have more menus... it has a calculator screen (and I aint talking about those texas instruments calculators) but menus means shit all... it has to do with what you want to do.

you say you want a machine to use a midi sequencer only... the best bang for your buck is the cheapest models. out of the cheapest models (500, 2000, 2000xl, 1000) the 2000xl has the best sequencer... unless anyone can confirm that JJOS on the 1000 can do as many note events as the 2000XL.
