Yup, Mr. Debauch is right. There's a learning curve with any piece of gear. I think it took me 3 weeks to get familar with my MV. But having some knowledge in samplers really puts the learning curve on the express lane.
What I did to learn the machine was fooling around with the presets and trying to make beats with them. I kept that phonebook.. **cough**.. I mean manual (700+ pages) by my side and read it whenever I wanted to do something. The index really helps, I wanted to delete a track and bam, there it was on page 169. I wanted to know how to sample from a CD from within the MV and beep beep, there it was on page 70. I myself haven't read the manual in its entirety but the index is damn helpful. Matter of fact, download the manual from rolandus.com and just enter keywords in the search to find what you need.
Good luck with your purchase, either one will make you happy. But a MV8800 brand new for $900 is a bargain
