The things I've noticed about some people who used to have an MV either
a) didn't put in the time to get to understand how the unit it trully functioned.
and/or
b) never updated the OS so the problems they did have have could have been resolved with a simple update.
I've never fkd with a 5000 (would like to) but was choosing between an MPC4000 or an MV a couple of years ago. I ended up buying the MV8000 for $800 since it had the VGA card installed.
Since it is older, I replaced the old azz 40GB HD and used a 40 pin IDE 3.5" to 2.5" adapter with a faster 120GB/7200 RPM laptop HD. The laptop HD should stay cooler since more air will be blown across it since it is smaller and has less area to cover. Plus Laptop HD's are designed for less heat. I had to also replace the old stock IDE cable with a longer copper braided 133 ATA/IDE cable. It's a noticieable difference now with the load & save times of samples and projects since swapping out the cable to a faster HD. I opted for a longer IDE cable to add a CF adapter later on in the spot of the floppy drive that never gets used. It's definitely alot quieter now when the HD is accessed.
Initial start of the the MV's OS load time wasn't affected since it is on a Flash ROM and not the HD. So no change in speed there.

I've had way better support from Roland than NUKAI. Roland even sent me a flat ribbon cable for my TR-808... for FREE!!!
