i've definately owned a 2xl. they're made not too bad, but the pads are uncomfortable. mpc2500 i was saying is made just as **** as the 1000. 1000 all that **** up is the glue on the pads really...

I've owned almost all them.
owned 4 mpc2kxl, 2 mpc2000, 2 mpc1000, 2 mpc3000, 4 mpc60, 3 studio 440, 5 forat9000, 3 sp1200, 2 sp12T, and the origiinal MPc, the music Production Computer lol:-D....pretty much all variations. i do know my **** with the quality:-)

Now the pads are uncomfortable? What are you doing sleeping on top of your MPCs?

Anybody that has ever used MPC 3000/60s know that they were 'built like tanks'. There is no getting around this fact. Most of you (probably myself as well) couldn't afford them when they were released in the late 8os/early 90s and now picking them up for a fraction of the price on eBay and pawn shops...good for you guys. But their LCD screens, buttons, floppy drive, and pads wear out at the same rate as MPC 2000/2000XLs, 2500s, and 4000s. Persoanlly, the only MPCs that I owned that needed repair, were second hand units.

No getting back to the quality of MPC 2500s, they are as solid as any recent MPC. But I must add that the flash card reader is cheap. The metal on the bottom of the unit could have been made more durable as well. But just because it is leaner, lighter..and not bulky doesn't mean its cheaply made. I have not had a single issue with its hardware. But let me flip this around and agree with you. The 2500 is built like crap when you compare it to an MPC 60/3000. So..keep using those dinosaurs and stay in the 3000 forum talking about nothing more than where can you find cheap SCSI drives..where can one get a replacement button for ths floppy drive....how do you convert wave samples into the MPC sound format...and my favorite..does the MPC 3000 have mute? Just hit me up in the 2500 forum where we will be talking about the lastest bug in the new 16 track audio recording channels

I hope the most amazing sound and solid build of the MPC 3000/60 will hold you over for the next decade :P

...........damn..I almost forgot the 1000. The glue is the only thing that fukin messed up? Don't you think that is enough for a $1000 machine? I really need to get back to Japan so I can sell you guys a bunch of MPC 1000s. I would make a killing and laughing all the way to the bank

$1000 is chump change sorry bro. aren't you like 30 somethin too? if tihs yer main piece $2000+ $3000+ $4000+ when yer past like 23 should be nothing and expected to pay for a main piece of your studio. $1000 is hardly anything.

the 2500 is built the same shitty quality face it too:p

the 2k and 2kxl both are built with higher quality.

it's simply undeniable that the new akai line is build really cheap.

technology never gets *BEtter* it just gets *cheaper* business learn how to better cut corners.

the extra features on the new mpcs aren't that useful. what do you really need?

have u ever used one? of course it's got mute. but not track mute via pads, that's really only for live use too...

where's your secondsequence button on the mpc2500?:-D

the truth is the mpc60 and 3000 still have amazing sequencers very capable with amazing timing.

another fact on the 60+3k they're tried+trusted. by MANY producers. and many still use em.

Just cuz some wack ass producer for 50 cent queen of connecticut uses a 2k doesn't mean it's hot shit.

and like somone said they do have tons of outboard gear which can make tons sound shitty.

$1000 is chump change for me...but not really so for many people on these boards. If it was so..then many people wouldn't even opt for that crap and shoot straight for the master...the 2500.

The MPC 60 is no longer relevant and those producers you are talking about use MPC 3000s and XLs with the XL getting equal or more studio time. So why did Akai drop a 2500? For the sample heads that want to get away from chopping on a computer and then importing them into their 3000s (not to mention that the 3000 went out of production before many of you even knew what an MPC was). Why did I move away from a 3000? I stated it many times before. The 2500s MIDI functions alone...not some gadgets or tricks. What do I really need....

1. Improved bank/patch select functions (MSB/LSB)
2. Recording of track mutes
3. Sampling/re-sampling while sequencer is active
4. Graphic waveform editing
5. 64 programs per sequence
6. Grid edit
7. And the fact that it support wav files

The 2000/XL are better built in terms of what? The LCD screens...the sliders or knobs...pads...metal casing.....your favorite topic, the AD/DA converters....? Let me know :P

So technology never gets better? I will leave that alone....because I have an entire household with this new technology........

Have I ever used an MPC 3000? You have a very hard time reading don't you pal? Ask me how many MPC 3000s have I owned or how long did I use them would be an appropriate question. I have a library full of zip disks that I will need to convert over one day........As far as an MPC 3000 have 'mute'.....its an old joke from a previous thread years ago..either here or another forum. I also got asked that once upon a time when I was slangin MPCs....and track mutes is not only for live use...especially the new function of recordable track mutes. We can now create songs without using song mode.

Second sequence button? Well..when I need a second sequence, I fire up Nuendo 3 :P But quite frankly, I never used that function much on the 3000..and would/have gladly given it up for something better.

Truth be told...the MPC 3000 has an adequate sequencer but is great sampling drum machine. Timing is not as tight as a 2000/2000XL..where you can have the worst timing in the world..and the 2000/2000XL would some how playback something hot. My mistakes turned into something great.

The MPC 3000 is tried and trusted...don't try to slip that ol MPC 60 into the equation. But you are still preaching to the choir. I know exactly what I gave the 3000 up for. On a side note...I went from an MPC 3000 to a 4000...only to return to a 3000.

Well, the wack producers that do the majority of 50's production are not in an internet forum talking about which MPC is better(unless you produced one of those tracks). They are actually...most likely in the studio making more hitz. But before you clown another artist/producer....where is your work that is much hotter?

Just because 9th Wonder uses Fruity Loops doesn't make it hot either  But go tell him that he can't produce something hot because he doesn't have an MPC 60 w/ a floppy drive and no memory like you

What is it with you and this outboard gear? You still have yet to inform us what you are using to capture the amazing drums coming out of your MPC 60? ???

You got next.......

Oh...and $1000 is really not chump change. That's 1/10 of my future Pro Tools HD set-up or Mackie Digital X bus....

Producing as long as I have? Maybe so but that is really not the point. 1993 is when I purchased my first drum machine (R-70), keyboard (JV80), sequencer, and 4 track recorder. What I am using now (which is quite impressive) is not the point....but I love to talk about it being the gearhead that I am

Honestly it doesn't matter what you are producing with your toys. The silly topic we have been talking about is which MPC is the best..in several threads. I just don't think the MPC 60/3000s sound is that impressive/amazing..and I would rather have a newer MPC that dwarfs those older units with all the added features....that's just me though. You can talk about the sound and that it suffers minimal damage when you hit it with a bat. While I can throw up the dozens of added/enhanced features of the newer models. If it is not today..than it will be tomorrow...but you will replace your MPC one day :P
