You are right. They DO do the same thing. I'm just a gadget freak and it seems I am one of the few on here that actually likes Akai. I have used the MV (just a little) and I prefer MPCs.

I second, formantuk. 192 ram is ridiculous these days... the 4k took up to 512 already! Or maybe it's able to use direct-from-disk sample playback like NI Kontakt or similar, then it'd make a better fit.
I wonder if it comes with display and mouse connectors, too? and what else might be in there?
the synth could be a handy tool, but if the filters aren't a quantum leap ahead of the 1k's, it won't be worth a single thought.

...cuz as much as I may like my 1k and jj's os and all the valuable effort put into it, the filters are still a flat joke with no bite compared to almost _any_ synth out there, be it analogue or digital. if they were at least somewhere in the middle... damn, even the tiny microkorg blows away the 1k filters by miles! even chained they don't shine.

Given all the comparisons, I feel it's fair to move this to the MPC Comparison Forum.

I just logged in and seen the new MPC5000, it's new forum, and that I'm a mod there. So bear with me while I try to catch up with what's going on.
