I have been researching the 3000 vs. [Insert MPC here] debate/question for a little bit. I am preparing to lay down my hard earned dough for a MPC in February. The MPC 3000 has drawn me to it no matter what advanced features the other mpc models have. Whether the reason for this is hype, reputation, sound, workflow, etc. I am on the fence about what MPC to pick. I have been looking into the mpc 60, 3000, and 4000. I know the benefits and drawbacks of each model i believe, but am still undecided. Like the person before me posted: "Dont invest in old technology". That is a rather smart idea to use when choosing a piece of equipment. But at the same time, thats like saying dont buy a moog analog synth because its old. When it can make some ill shit. It seems like the obvious choice is a modern machine like 2500, 1000, or 4000, but some kind of bias, or influence keeps pulling me towards the 3000. I owned a 2000xl for about 4 months and had to unfortunately get rid of it because of hard times, so now I am on a mission to invest into a MPC. Deciding which one i cop will be a matter of time.

The 4000 seems like one of the most foward thinking choices.

But the 3000 is definately a rock solid machine.

Only time wil tell what mpc i choose. wish me luck and any opinions are welcomed.

Peace.

The 3000 sounds hell better ! I liked the test2 (wished it was the 3000 lol) and honestlyi didn't know it was actually the 3000. If you can't hear a difference you must not have a good ear.

or it could be a poor monitoring system or a poor soundcard or a poor room. I heard it immediately. They defnt sound similar no doubt, like you would expect two products from the same company to.

I heard it although I have a poor motherboard soundcard, poor 2.1 pc speakers and a poor room

Sorry i don't get what you mean or what you are saying doesn't mean anything cuz if i heard the 3000 having a better sound even wit a poor system then in a good one it would have been more obvious than oubvious !

Take it easy !

sky8studios,

it is normal that sequences don't fit exactly, that would happen even with the same mpc playing. MPC's are are not sample accurate sequencers. A good test: layer a breakbeat sample above itself. Instead of a sound amplification (sample accurate) you will notice random phasing.

Yeah that's my point homie. The differences jumped out at me beacuse I have a pretty good monitoring system.

donuts...

ok i will try and see. you may be very right. i thought the timing was supposed to be "spot on" for mpcs. so there is going to be variation everytime you play a sequence on any mpc? everytime? that sounds wierd. but i will check anyway

Hum i'm not an expert about timing issues but the difference i hear is the the sound quality (i mean the type of sound) : the 3000 sounds warmer/fatter !

I liked test 2, the drums sounded better than the 2500. If I had a 3000 I would only use it for drums. I like how it sounded more punchy. I also see what ol boy was saying about how harsh the high end was on the test1.

Personally, they sound pretty close to me with very little difference. However, most of the folks that responded says that the prefer the first sample and believed that one to be the MPC 3000.

I though the first one was the 3000 too... I think is sounds fatter
