How's that Linn 2 looking?

If the hardware hasn't been finalize that would lead me to believe that the initial OS is almost nonexistant.

It has VGA (albeit vapor) like the MV.

This thing is the DNF of samplers. If they keep screwing around there customer will move past this thing. Given the option on the back this this is more like PC than even the MV. I'd like to see some data on how this will all tie together.

I think the hardware has been finalized - and hence the software has also - but they want to keep their cards close to their chests at this point in time.

This machine will be worth the wait and they are not worried about people moving past because the machine will speak for itself. everyone that will be made will be sold trust that.

In more stable financial times i may have agreed. Small production runs like the Smith lines are pretty pricey.

If they had anything real they wouldn't be releasing CGI mock-ups. Most companies do this when there is no physical working prototype. Smith and Linn have been at this for three years and no physical product. I think they're waiting for Roland being that they can respond with a cheaper and more powerful product pretty quick.

I doubt they are waiting for Roland at all. Protecting what they have from Roland maybe...

The usb slots lead me to believe perhaps you can use standard drives instead of card readers/ZIPs, etc... for storage. Real cool for sure.

An ethernet hole? I can only imagine. Perhaps they will make the machine have direct connectivity to the net for downloading sounds/upgrades, whatever?

That left panel is looking very MPC-5000ish now.

Time will tell. I'm sure they'll have a working on for January's NAMM.

That what I mean. If Roland sees it before launch of their own machine. It wouldn't take much for those guys to mimic the Smith/Linn features. There still not safe because the the Roland constantly updates.

I think this will be a machine for the few like the rest of the pricey Smith line.

One wonders what the market is like for high-end pad-oriented music production station products in light of current economic conditions in countries where these things would be sold.

All I can say is, I haven't lost interest and I think it will be a very good product.

I think it's funny how the display of the unit grew from their first design to now. When I first read about this thing Roger and Dave stated "No, it's gonna be a drum machine. It won't be an MPC!" But seeing this beast now I wouldn't wonder if they start integrating keys and hard disc recording and end up with something like the Miko with built in analogue synth!

Anyway, when this unit is released it won't be a bargain...but still interesting.

I agree. If they keep adding to this vapor trail it'll be reduced to a plug-in and a PCI card.
