To all of you who gave me buying advice recently.

Well, I finally did a deal this evening and bought my very first MPC . I got myself a used MPC1000 ( the seller claimed it is only six months old ).
It is the newer black version and it cost me £300 sterling ( about $440 US by todays exchange ).

There is slight damage to one of the end plastic rails, but it is purely cosmetic. The guy included a 128 k Akai Sound Cf Card and- surprisingly - an Akai ( no less ) 128 meg ram chip ( still boxed and packaged - he never opened it or tried to install it ) - this was pleasing as I had intended to head straight to PC World to buy the 128 ram after picking up the unit.
So, I bought myself a PNY 2 gig CF card in readiness for moving my sounds from the PC onto the card for use in the MPC.

I must admit, I felt quite sick when parting with my money, as you don't get any guarantee when buying second hand from a private seller ... yet, having got home and given it a quick clean up, and having installed the 128 ram ( which showed up fine when I turned the unit on ), I am feeling quite chuffed and a little proud. O have also taken off the side panel and glued to the little plastic bracket that got broken ... so that, come the morning, I should be able to screw the entire side panel back on nice and tightly.

One quick question from the many that will no doubt follow over the coming weeks, how do I format the new CF card ?

Oh, and I promise I will spend plenty of time reading through the manual after Xmas, and I'll also scan the forums for frequently asked questions before needlessly bothering you helpful guys here.

Congratulations. It must be nice to play Santa Claus and the recipient at the same time. Oh how I remember those days. :)

Most of the CF cards don't need formatting. You should be able to just pop it in and go. The real question should be how big a hard drive should you put in there?!
