Used to own the 2500 ... sold it. Getting MPC again. Advice.

I was an active member around here a while back when I had my 2500. Sadly I had to sell it due to cash problems. It tore me apart when I had to let it go. I'm back on form again and have the cash to buy another MPC.

So, the question is the 2500 or the 1000. I've not used the 1000 but I've noticed people say they are both similar once you stick JJOS on them. I never needed the extra outputs on the 2500 and never used the additional slider either. Apart from that how do they differ?

Oh, I also have no need for the CD Drive. As long as I can stick a HDD in the 1000 and the software functions similar (with JJOS) ... and the pads are not as "stiff" as people say then I'm good to go with the 1000. Saves me a little extra cash.

Not very much at all from a functional perspective.

In my opinion, the pads are the main difference. If you get a 1000 with the upgraded pads or do the upgrade yourself you should be happy with your purchase. The pads on the 2500 are the standard Akai pads used on many other MPCs. The 2500 has some of it's own quirks like the issues with the jog wheel, etc...

With the extra cash you save on buying a 1000 instead of a 2500, you can buy a crate of records to sample from.

I've seen a few guitar center's running a special on the 2500. I've seen them for sale around 900-1000.....not sure if they are floor promos or what

Had both an mpc 1000 and a 2500 both with JJOS - sold both to get a couple of ASR-10s but if its between a 1000 and a 2500 I would say that its worth the extra investment to get a 2500.

The 1000 is more portable of course but the feel of the 2500 is noticeably different. Not cause of any technical reason, just the design makes using it more comfortable (tilt screen is a massive advantage).

As touched upon in other posts - you may well get a very good deal on a 2500 if you look around.

I went with the 1000 in the end. I got the black MPC, which has the better pads than the blue (so I've read), but seeing what boon doc does with the 1000 and looking back at what I was doing with the 2500, I'm not worried.

I suppose the main issue would be the pads and the tilt screen, but I've also owned and used the MPD32, so I can live with the pads. If I need to upgrade the pads I will.

But this is more of a hobby to me more than anything. I enjoyed chilling out with the MPC and just jamming more than anything. I'd have no need for a 2500 on a pro. level, production would be done through headphones (a very expensive pair at 150 UK Pounds).

Daymn! I hate waiting for products. The guy called me today and said my card declined because of address verification and he had not ordered the MP in yet. The idiot made a mistake when charging my card. Got to wait a week for it!! A well at least my RAM and HDD would have arrived by that time.

the 1k is a portable device, IMO
either way though, there both worth having as an weapon
