Maschine vs MPC 4000

I use both now and they are both great in their own fields each with their own advantages.

The 4k layers sounds and programs easily.

The maschine duplicates sounds on the pads and I can edit faster.

I can do the do same on a 4 but I have to make several Copys of the sample and then assign them to the pads either pad assign or zones page (my favorite) then go back to sample page to change the start by wheel or qlink. It is cool and I'm decent on it.


But I fly on edits with maschine.

Layering is very easy on the 4k but I haven't work it out on maschine yet.

4k midi out sync is great with all my equip. But I'm having trouble sync up maschine to the 4k sequencer.

I like both and after reading reviews and watching knocksquared videos workflow I bypass mpc 5000 plans, sold my mpd24 and give maschine a try.

It isn't that hard on Maschine either.

-Load a sample into a sound.
-Press the SAMPLING button and the MAP button (button 4). You can see it's mapped from C-2 to G8 with C3 as root key.
-Drag another sample from the software browser next to the orange area and drop it*.
-Press the NEXT button (button 8) to select the added sample. You can see it's mapped from C-2 to C-2 with C-2 as root key. Adjust these keys with knobs 1, 2 and 3 to hear the new sample when you hit the pad.

*Instead of drag and drop you can also use the BROWSE button, select the sample you want to add and press the ADD button (button 7), then press the LOAD button (button 8). Now the added sample is already mapped from C-2 to G8 with C3 as root key.

Now you can edit the velocity, tune, gain and pan settings of each sample. Unfortunately you can't filter each sample differently which really is needed to do some proper layering. I hope they'll add this soon. Or a way to link sounds.

Probably what you will see.

Got to work however initally the samples are mapped across the key range so when I drag a sample in or used zones it was replacing the whole sample. Only after I realize this and adjusted the first sample to one note keyrange I was able to bring in other samples for layering. Finally got the two mpc and maschine sync through the midi input port like the manual states but not through the virtual midi.

Maschine sounds good in standalone but still got learning to do and I`m back at it.

No, don't drop the sample on the orange area, but on the grey area next (maybe beside is a better word?) to the orange area. Then adjust the keys (ROOT/LOW/HIGH) of the added sample.

What I meant was I had to adjust the orange area first to make room for the next sample. At first the whole keyboard is orange! I adjust the first sample to a narrow keyrange and the grey area is uncovered. Then I can drag and drop a sample.

What view size do you have selected? Small, medium, large of fullscreen?

Are you using the stock kits or building from scratch? I`m working with the 808 stock kit and everything is spread across the keys from 0 to 127 velocity also.

The mapping of Kick 808 1 (from the 808 Kit) looks exactly the same. And as you can see the sample in my screenshot is mapped from C-2 to G8 and velocity from 0 to 127. I'm wondering if screen resolution has got something to do with it.

How do you set the resolution? I`m on a 24in iMac?

Don't know anything about macs. I have a pc with a 24" screen at 1920 x 1200.

I got it. I was starting out with the preset kits which are all mapped acrossed the keyrange. But I followed the Ref Manual and started out with a empty group and empty sound and dragged in the samples.
