I started out on an MPC and after trying to produce w linear recording softwares for years without feeling it, I'm considering a return to my roots. I still have a mass of hardware but have been spoiled by the extreme convenience of Logic when dealing w sampling, and I see that the newer MPC's have USB attached and wonder how well they work w file dropping and program creation which begs the question:

whats it all about?

What all can you do via USB to an MPC? Can you edit parameters and programs? Can you drag n drop samples onto pads? can you do any function in realtime? midi/audio over usb? does the JJOS affect any of this? are the diferent models diferent in usb functionality?

heeelpmeh!

thanks :)

USB on mpc is ONLY for data transfer and nothing else.
Shows up like your digital camera on your computer. Samples to/from cf card only. Nothing else.

All of the mpc manuals tell you this.

Lampdog is of course right, but the MPC4000 in combination with the Aksys software editor really opens up the creation of programs and multi's, including editing of most key parameters in real-time over USB. And yes, you can drag and drop samples onto pads using the program editor...

Check out the MPC4000 forum for more details on Aksys functionality.

Yeah, 4k is different. Not on the same usb level as the others.

Well youve confirmed my fears, MPC4K is the way to go!

Ive also seen the 4K being controlled by logic via midi sysex. I love logic but its not as groovy as the MPC. Maybe i could program it w knob boxes. does comprehensive sysex contoll exist for the others too?

Thanks for the very helpful responses. :)
