A really good "in-the-box" solution.

im not sure what this thread says....... but who the **** picks an MPC according to which one has the best filters? they are all shit in the world of filters. That is like choosing a car based on which one has the best after market roof rack.... who **** cares.. get a separate filter and **** off... the filter is so low priority that they didn't even think of putting one in the first model.

Still useable.

..and yes, the +'s are that extra "oomph".

The filters in the 4K are in a different league to the average MPC filter(s), because it's a proper rack sampler squeezed into an MPC shaped box. They become integral to certain types of program, especially when you start controlling different elements with the mod matrix. You also get a lot more flexibility than a standalone filter because you can stack up multiple programs with a shit load of detailed filter work all going off at once, with some things locked to tempo and other things drifting in and out of time. That's before you even automate anything.

yeah routing is pretty advanced compared to most other models

Just picked up a 4k (owned a 1k since they came out) for the filter routing options and I have to say.. They sound bloody terrible! Didn't really think much of the 1k filters but damn, lots better than the 4k. Pretty gutted. Can anyone recommend some decent hardware filters besides Sherman?

Sounds like user error.

The resonance has a very narrow sweet spot and sounds like shit if it's ramped up too high, whereas the cutoff goes much wider. I thought the filters in the 1K/2500 were dire in comparison, but each to their own. 8)

Definitely user error. Maybe because the 4K filters are professional grade so the learning curve is steeper from the newer MPCs who's filters are designed to layer chops and not for advance sampling and sound design.
