1k/2500 vs Renaissance..

eh dudes. so i know theres a smaller thread a few pages in regarding the 2500 vs the ren..
but its a little old, and the general consensus seemed to be that the 2500 was the better choice due to people not believing the ren was 'finished' yet etc regarding software updates blah blah blah :lol:

anyways!..im going to try to upgrade from my lil 500 to (most likely) the 2500, i weighed out the pros/cons of the 3000, xl, 4000... and honestly hadnt put too much thought into the renaissance.
however, now that the 1.4 software is out, i see a lot more people either switching to the ren, or just basically singing its praises.

the main reason i started this thread was because the mpc 2500s ive been looking at are around 800.. and the store in my city has the ren's for 999.99.....

heres what im thinking though, i love the 2500s usb capabilities and its one of the main reasons i was considering it..the renaissance obviously has that and more with regards to usb lol, however im concerned that my mac is too slow and shitty to run the damn program smoothly/properly...

besides that, and especially because of the updated os, i have the feeling that besides the needed use of the computer, the ren will do exactly what i want to do with 2500 and more, and for only 200 dollars more it might be a good idea in the long term, you know?

Im pretty sure most of this has been covered in detail. The MPC1000/2500 are known quantities and feature a lot in this comparison forum. Latest developments with 1.4 can be found in the Ren forum. No point in trying to compare after every single Ren update, is there???

I agree with this. I had a REN and sold it, it just couldn't compete with my 2500 and JJOS for how I work and what I want my process to be like. My 2500 has never crashed on me either, can't same the same for the REN.

neither, if you are working with macrosamples. mpcs are simply not equipped to flexibly manipulate large audio samples. you can work around it, but in doing so you are holding yourself back.

jjos is a spectacularly smooth midi sequencer, though.

I am also interested in this comparison, since I am into buying a new MPC after using the 2000XL for over 13 years now.

It's either the 2500 or the Ren for me.

I love the idea of being able to mix down the whole thing on the Ren, with all these effects available.

On the other side, I kind of like my hardware standalone, and JJos2XL looks mighty fine. But then I would need to do my final mix down in Cubase again.


Any advice on this subject is welcome.

people that actually make music/beats will recommend the 2500/1000. because it's solid and proven.

people that just like how MPCs look and don't have a previous MPC to compare it to will say get a renaissance. maybe just maybe it'll be fully functional one day, but expecting good programming from AKAI is like expecting high quality sound from a behringer mixer.

eh dudes. so i bought the ren..
so far its dope as fuk/frustrating as shiit.

the mpc 500 ive been using for a few years now i can use with lightening speed, getting drums, samples, everything how i want it to sound and chopped with perfection
the ren so far couldnt be more annoying to me right now, i love certain aspects of it so far, i really do, but im just not sold on it.

the chop feature is great but for some reason the workflow seems slow as hell to me right now even though i basically know what im doing..

and for some damn reason, i think its bugging out because certain tracks will just basically mute other samples either drums or vst's.... and nothing is in mute groups. and i cant FUKKING FIGURE OUT WHY ITS DOING THAT. hahaha :|

another thing i dont like -sayi laid the drum track down with 1/16 time correction and 50 swing or whatever. say i overdub and put down another kick drum somewhere with no time correction, when i re record it, all the drums move around instead of remaining the same time correction they were first made.. so stupid.

the mpc 500 can just overdub and do a diferent time correction any time u re record over the SAME track. i dont know.

fml, just got protools so, probably just going to be using the 500 with protools still, dno about the ren. im having buyers remorse. i financed it so i can take it back if i want, but yeah. heavy decisions.

gear lust is again on my mind and i'm about to exchange my 2500 with jj xl2 for ren. I'd like to save some time because transferring song track by track takes like 30-40 mins every time i do it and i have to be concentrated to not make mistakes in tracking like having 2 different sounds on one track or to forgot some sounds.
So I'm almost convinced to exchange but one thing that bothers me is chopping. On JJ OS XL it is really **** fast BUT i also have had mpc 60 where chopping was **** up. My concern is : can i chop without looking at computer screen? I don't have to see waveform but i need to have opportunity to pick some parts of the sample as chops.
I mean i pick start and end of the chop and go for next which can start on the end but doesnt have to. IDK if you get it. If not I will try to visualise it :D

EDIT : By **** up chopping on 60 i mean it was slow.
