Downgrading from MPC 5000 to MPC 2500

I'm thinking to downgrade from the MPC 5K to 2500, just because of the sheer size of the 5K.
Apart from the synth (I have some hardware, so no big deal) which other features would I miss?

I really like the 5K otherwise, but really, it's a bit of a heavy load...

Depends on whether you go for the Akai OS or one of the JJOS. But no keygroups (some JJOS have INST programs which are similar), no 24 bit support, less Q links, smaller screen, no hard disk recording ('direct recording' and JJOS 'audio tracks' available though), less memory, etc.

You'll find the OS in the 2500 more robust, even with the Akai OS.

2500 with JJOS-XL and you'll probably have few regrets.

I'm finding it really hard to decide, as apart from the size I really enjoy the 5K and haven't encountered any bugs yet, but that thing is bigger than my cat and trust me my cat is huge!

Depends on what you use the 5k for...

IF you aint using all those qlinks, and dont rely on the hard disk recorder and synth, a 2500 with jjosxl is much more fun to make beats with...

The other thing is the multi outs... if your not using the adat or 10 outs, you could even go smaller to the 1k with osxl... same experience almost as the 2500.. it's mainly size once again.. The 1k with jjosxl is still my favourite because of its size/footprint, and you still get all those functions...

Are MPC 5000 projects compatible with the 2500?

Also, does the MPC 2500 have the direct recording function?
I don't use the hard disk recording that much, but direct recording is great when I play bass guitar on a pattern.

It might sound degrading but downgrading is actually upgrading when dealing with Akai products so you on your way on the right track.

And yes, its got that Direct Record feature that only the real producers here know about so once again you on your way.

We getting rid of the 5000 when it "produces" such nice warmed. The cat likes it.

Is it really a downgrade, or an upgrade?

And is the MPC5000 really too heavy to lug around?

Strangely, I've never seen or touched one...

That cat seems pretty pissed off they did'nt bring out a new OS.....
