MPC 2500 too big?

Hello, I'm new here, and relatively new to the MPC 2500. I have yet to grasp a good work flow, but I personally am finding the thing a bit to big physically and has more features than I realistically need to use. I will only be using very light midi on it, and will be mostly used for sampled synths and one shots.

The thing is now I'm regretting buying this and want to "downgrade" to a 1000 because portability means a lot to me, and I didn't realize just how giant the 2500 is. I already see that there isn't much different now that JJOS is a thing.

Is there a major difference in size, is it worth trying to sell for a 1000? is anyone willing to trade me theirs?

I'm not sure if it's just the daunting work flow learning curve making me think I should downgrade or not. I'm used to really immediate and small drum machines so this seems like a massive computer in comparison!

1000/2500 is same machine inside, not counting few hardware differences. 1000 is a size of A4 paper sheet.

If you are really worried about size, get an MPC500.

The 2500 isn't more complicated than a 1000 or 500. They all can do the same things more or less. In each one of them you will have to set up your sequences, tracks, programs, parameters, etc. Workflow will be VERY similar.

That's what I was thinking, I assumed that the 2500/1000 were about the same except for some buttons and hardware limitations. I like the 2500 but I feel like the fact that the mpc is smaller will allow me to work on it when I travel a lot more which is important since I get cabin fever and like to go to coffee shops and shit to look like I'm cool.

I guess thing I use the most that the mpc doesn't have is the numerical pad.

If you want to be super portable, don't forget the 500. It's a little limited compared to a 1000/2500... no waveforms, you have to do everything on a small 2-line display, etc... but it runs on batteries.

There's a user here who modded a 1000 to run on batteries, but unless you do that, you gotta find an outlet to use it.

Honestly, the big difference in making an MPC truly portable, is if you can run it on batteries.

I've taken my 2500 with me to holidays. You just need a coffee table, headphones and an outlet. You can find that almost anywhere (hotels, coffee shops, etc).

Naw that will get too costly anyone, I need midi outs, several dedicated outputs, and physical pads. At that point Id be carrying too much crap. For small shows, although it would work for jus hanging out, although if care an IPad, midi utility, and some sort of midi drum pads so it would be more crap that an mpc 1000

there is bluetooth midi now and tapping on the screen works surprisingly well. some decent programs there too. i bet you could fit it and your controller in a fold up laptop bag or briefcase. maybe check out i/o dock, or get you a mini midi pad controller thingy

I'll look into it but I don't own a computer. I use the library and my iphone. I'll look into it but in the price is comparable I'm probably gonna go to the 1000.

Since you stated that midi is important for you keep in mind that the amount of midi ins and outs are not equal on those three models.

MPC500: 1 MIDI IN, 1 MIDI OUT
MPC1000: 2 MIDI IN, 2 MIDI OUT
MPC2500: 2 MIDI IN, 4 MIDI OUT

Also don't forget that daisy chaining your midi devices can save you the need of an extra midi port.

Yeah I have had terrible luck trying to sell my MPC seems that no one wants it haha. I really only need the two in/out. It's connected to a moog voyager and another small DIY synth I use.

That's enough to sequence both and still use the through on them to clock other things if neccesary.

I just travel between me and my bandmates apartment, and keeping things light and easy to take on a bike is important. I don't wanna take a loss on it, but I might have to get the portability I want.
