Trading my mpc2000xl for a mpc 500?

Please inform me whats the pro's and con's of making this trade. I really like the fact I can be on the go with the mpc 500. But as far as functions wise will I be getting set back pretty far?

i've owned a mpc 500 for a 2 weeks or so and i gotta say i would never pick one up again unless the price dropped to 500 shipped.. its definately not worth trading your 2000(xl), if your willing to sacrifice the waveform edit, yeah mpc 60, 3000, any of the older samplers we know you use your ears and not your eyes, fyi people with wave forms also use thier ears. for that feature alone i do not see trading down.. the buttons are very tiny and the controls and menus are all pretty cluttered, i really disliked the feel of the 500, hey thats just me, i aint knockin no one who owns one..

can we all stop with the on the go thing, honestly i never imagined taking my 500 out of the house and using it on the bus or at school or whereever, something worth 700-800 bucks aint leaving my house anytime soon, sorry to say but i dont have that kinda cash to bring out with me, people front like their going to take it everywhere, i mean why would you spend your night sampling records only to stop because you want to do things "on the go" why not just finish what you started... when a lot of people are in the zone, i know when i am in that zone, i yawn a lot, but i dont stop til i finish because i know at a later time, i wont feel like **** with a track because the mood or feeling that i was trying to put in that track isnt there at a later or different time..

but to sum it up, it would be more of a con, i definately think you'd be making a huge mistake if you made this trade.. functions you'd be set back, wave form edit mang, zoning, track muting and soloing is much more difficult, the extra pads.. now trading for a mpc 1000 would be a different story, but a little harder to break down..

when a lot of people are in the zone, i know when i am in that zone, i yawn a lot, but i dont stop til i finish because i know at a later time, i wont feel like **** with a track because the mood or feeling that i was trying to put in that track isnt there at a later or different time..

i disagree. i've loved the 500 ever since i got it. the feel of it takes getting used to, like any machine takes getting used to. the USB connectivity is also ill. only thing i miss is having 8 outs. chopping is just like i chop on my 60, no problem.

but my situation is different...i have a 1 & 1/2 hour commute to work in NYC...each way. fuk what u heard..i stay makin beats in the morning with an extra set of double A's in case i wear the thing out. sh*t...yesterday @ work i was thinking about edits to do...grabbed my briefcase, went to BORDERS during lunch, and banged them out.

but really, try the 500 out, and if u think thats what u really need and its better than the 2kxl, do the trade

I feel ya on that one. Just be careful with it. I used to take my maxed out MPC 1k to a friend's house every once in a while but felt skeptical about something happening to it during each trip. Anything can happen, accidents (car wreck, drop it and break it, etc...), getting robbed, etc.... I'm not trying to be too paranoid but an $800+ machine (with my priceless work on it) isn't exactly something I feel comfortable with lugging around with me. Now that I've intergrated my MPC 1k with some other gear at home as a smaller alternative studio environment/setup, I doubt my MPC 1k will be leaving the house again anytime soon. Thus, my MPC 1k could serve as a backup MPC if my 4000 (which is what I use in my larger studio setup) ever breaks down (hope that NEVER happens!!!!).

I'll trade a 1000 maxed out for your 2000xl! Lemme know! -Jesse
