MPC1000 to 2500 upgrade justification..

I have had an MPC1000 for about a year - I got it basicaly to see if I could realy get into it and would use it. At first, I bought it because it was a hardware sampler and thats what I focused on. as the time as passed, I have realized it isnt about the sampler at all (which is still nice) its about the SEQUENCER!.

Anyway, as good and fun as the MPC1000 sequencer is, I have a few issues with it. I know that there are some features in the 2500 that the 1000 lacks that are documented (gridview and the like) but I would also like to get some input on if these items are corrected in the 2500:

1. Midi *always* plays the internal sound engine

I have a keyboad controller plugged into the 1k, and playing thu to some other sound modules. I use the 'as track' mode on the MPC and have to set the input to 'ALL' for it to work. this has the unfortunate side effect of making any sounds assigned to the pads play on EVERY channel. Can the 2500 be set to have the internal sound engine ONLY respond to the internal sequencer, and *still* thru the MIDI data on to a soundmodule hooked up to one of the 4 MIDI outputs?

2. step edit display shows note numbers, but not note names

Being I am more keyboard player, I like to see note names in the step edit rather than their MIDI note numbers. While I have (to some extent) gotten used to it, it would make things a *LOT* easier if I could just see the note name in lieu of the note number.

so thats basically it. I am probably going to upgrade regardless of how these questions are answered, but Ill be just a little bit more eager to do so if they are answered in the affirmative.

I've not used the 1000 so I can't really say for sure, I brought a 2500 because I wanted the quality build and the nice pads and I'm very happy with it.

However you say you are interested in "new features" such as grid edit...well before you sell you 1000 and fork out a load of extra cash on a 2500 I'd suggest you install JJ OS because for $30 you'll end up with all these features anyway.

For the most part JJ OS has all the same feature on both machines, and more than that JJ OS has more useful feature on the 1000 than a 2500 with the Akai OS on it...you may find the 2500 is the machine for you but before you think about spending all that extra money it's worth finding out what the machine you've already got is really capable of.

thank you for your response. I had forgotten about the JJ OS until you mentioned it. I am curious to give it a test drive, however I am also concerned that if I install it, that I wont be able to then re-install the standard OS from Akai.

Ill have to do some more research.

You will have not problem reinstalling the Akai OS after you've installed JJ OS and more over you won't want to haha
