s900/950 comparison

ok, i decided after posting here that ii want an s950 for my drums.
I own a 2500, but it's very clean and i want to crunch my drums a bit so i want a cheap unit to do so.
Here's what i wanna use it for...

-sample from a turntable straight into the s950
-then play the s950 recorded sample stright into the 2500 for all the editing and arranging.

You see that's all i want to do with it- just record in 12 bit and then play it back into the 2500, so memory or features isn't really important cuz im using my 2500 as a main unit.

Thing is Im having a bit of bother finding a s950, but i have come across an s900 for a good price- should i just get that for what i want?

Am i right that they are basically the same unit except the s950 just has more memory and slightly more features?

as far as i remember the only difference is the memory thing and that the s950 have the filter option - I can't remember if the s900 has that...
But if you are only going to use it for the sound, you might as well get the 900 - doesn't really matter.

MPC 2500 with JJOS should have bit reducer, which can reduce the sample to 12 bit.

The bit reducer doesnt sound like a S950/900

the difference between the 900 and 950 is the memory
and also you can use HD floppys in the 950 and not in the 900
and the 950 could go from 7.5 khz to 48khz instead of 7.5 to 40

yeah i know that JJ has a bit reducer but ive heard its a bit shit....aparently it justt adds various degrees of white noise to the signal?

...and as for the ...upto 48khz, i think 40 will be the highest i'd need anyway...wont it?

I've heard the filters are shit hot on the s950, that right? they don't come as sttandard though do they?

everything on the s950 come as standard... the only thing you can upgrade on the unit is the memory and scsi option (as far as i know)

^^ yup! The 950 has some pretty significant upgrades in the OS. I wouldn't even consider the 900 over the 950.

Masterbits used to make aftermarket memory cards. Your gonna need that extra boost down the road.

the 950 also has timestretch. if i were you, i would midi them together instead of resample. much more fun. i would pick the 950 over the 900 but wouldn't pass up the 900 at the right price.

some cat on german ebay is sayin that the s900 is sounding way better than the s950 because of a better sound engine.
is that true or does he only want to push the price?
any experiences?

**** timestretch for my sake. i can manage just fine with an s900, even without the more limited khz ratings. it sounds vicious as ****.

if I was you I would get an EMAX 1.

I have an S900 that I don't use.

The floppy drive doesn't work though.
