opinions on trading 1000 for asr 10?

I put my mpc 1000 up on craigslist so I can possibly trade or buy a 2000xl. Today I got an offer to trade for an asr 10. I'm skepitcal because I have no idea how to use this unit and I know the mpc like the back of my hand. If anyone has any opinions on the asr and 1000 and how it compares that would be helpful.

I like that fact that I can chop my samples and assign them across the pads and I don't want to give that up...help!!!

I haven't used an ASR but i know on the ASR you can chop a sample up and lay them across the keys...i would go on youtube and search for ASR videos and see how things are done there

my opinion:
don't do it

I wouldn't do it because I prefer working on the 1000, but an ASR properly equipped is usually worth more monetarily than a used 1000 is.

Two different machines.

1 - MPC's to me, all included, are not all in one boxes - you cant mold or edit your samples like you can on a asr-10 - so you become less musically. you sample, chop up the samples tune a few up or down and play them in a order of your choice and throw drums on top. ( kinda what boon doc does )


2 - ASR-10's are to me a more complete piece, true the sequencer is not like on the MPC's, but the sampler on the 1000 for damn sure no where close to the asr10 sample engine. you can still lay your chops across the keys its just all done in a different way, and dont forget the sound. the 1000's sound like toys compared to ASR.

I did however added a mpc 3000 to the family and I will say the sound and sequencer are great, but no way can I nor will I see myself making beats with as a standalone, just thinking about chopping and assigning and going thru pages gives me a headache. I will keep it to sequence, and yeah thats it just to sequence. the sound i prefer the asr10.

damn im torn...now i just got offered to trade for a 2000xl....

Just to forewarn you... the ASR-10 only has 8 tracks. If you're more than an 8-track or less producer... I would rethink the decision lol.

Don't understand why you are trading the 1000 for the 2000xl. I actually did the opposite even though I had installed the cf drives in the 2000xl to bring it up to scrap

You dont have oly 8 tracks but its not big deal homie. I can post beats here I did on 5-6 tracks on the asr-10, in fact I was called out and I posted this beat done on the asr10 ---- Iam still waiting for a 1000/2500 user drop sounds like these, mad chopped and mad funk. this is what a 8 track machine can do. now go and compare sounds.

the mpc 1000 pads are pure trash

and the 8 outs are better than the 4

and the flip screen is crucial

if the pads on the mpc are trash, whats the point of even using an mpc? you might as well use a computer to get the job done

Asr 10>2000xl

id say get that 2000xl though since youre used to mpc's and the sequencer can't be beat make sure it has 32 memory, no lines in the screen and try to get the 8 outs

I'd get the 2000 before the 1000 anyday. I don't even see the point of the 1000, unless you're always on the go.

I don't have much experience with an asr10, but I have heard a lot of good things about it.

I'd still prolly get the 2000 though...or even better, a MV8000
