MPK49?

I saw this at guitarcenter the other day and have been bouncing back and forth on weather or not to sell my mpc1000 and pick this up since it looks like it can do almost the same and more except for a few lesser pads.
anyone try this mpk49 or any ideas on what to do?

i usually just load drum beats i buy and stuff like that not really from records or anything. i hardley sample as well.

Anyone know if this uses the cheap pads like in the older MPC1000s?

Someone in another forum said the pads felt stiff, but I thought that maybe they might need to be broken in.

I have one, i cant tell u the diff in pads from an mpc or if they use the old 1000 pads but they are really stiff and u gotta hit em hard to get a result. Its not a sampler or a drum machine at all. Its just meant for use on software like FL Studio, Reason, etc or a midi controller for other hardware. IT DOES NOT COME WITH ANY SOUNDS AND YOU CANNOT LOAD SOUNDS INTO IT,IT DOESNT HAVE A CARD READER OR ANY OTHER WAY TO LOAD THEM. ITS JUST A CONTROLLER. IF U DO SELL UR MPC FOR THE MPK49 ULL BE VERY PISSED OFF.

im looking at an mpd32 myself. altho the mpk49 is just as tempting but will probably take upto much space in my room. i hav a mpc 1000 but i am looking to sell this. if u use a software daw and are happy with that as ur working environment, then the mpk49 or mpd32 will def b worthwhile controllers. i heard horror stories about the previous mpd16 and mpd24 (hardware failures when updating os, problems with templates, etc). the mpd32 seems to have pretty good user reviews and experiences so far, and i have heard more good than bad about the mpk49.

the reason im selling my mpc? i think its a great piece of hardware (even better with the jjos), but i simply find ableton better for my workflow, and has many more options. with ableton, u r missing out if u dont hav a good controller. with the built -in mpd/mpk templates for the latest version of ableton, i can b touching a device/plugin and ableton will map the functions to the akai controller. as it happens, the new range of akai controllers seem to be highly praised. when ive had a little play of both the mpk and mpd32 in my local audio shop, im so far impressed with build quality. the mpc 1000 is great, but i just dont use it, if u use a software daw, i reckon the new akai selection of controller r worth checking out.

im surprised that there isnt a forum yet for the mpd/mpk series. theres a lot of ppl asking questions on other sites on setting up templates with different daws, changing custom mappings, etc. mpc-forums should accomodate for these new akai products. theres likely to be more new mpd/mpk users than mpc users given how many ppl use their pc/mac's to produce music now. this is such a fantastic place to get all ur mpc queries answered, and ppl r asking a lot of questions about these controllers.

I use it for my software production and with one program it doesnt really wotk well with it since it doesnt have a template for it (yet) and i use the usb cord since i dont have an interface or sound card to put it through midi but the usb is just as good in my opinion. i might get the mpd but if i can find a 2000xl and midi it into reason then im happy but if not ill just get a 1000. and if i wanna use software than ill just midi it up or get this midi to usb thing from Emu that i saw a video of when a guy used it to hook up his 2000xl to his mac book for Reason 3.0. Just Blaze is really happy with the MPK so it reassures me about it.

Sure. I'm the kind of guy that will revive a year old post.

I have an MPD32 and the pads are extremely stiff. With the threshold and sensitivity set to their lowest setting; I have to use two fingers (middle and index) to feel as though i'm not going to break my hands hitting this thing.

The mpd32 will certainly give you arthritis in your later years.

I was at a studio like 2 years ago and they had a mpc4k that you could tap on and the pads felt like pillows compared to the mpd32.

I've had my mpd 32 for almost a year now I think, so I'm not convinced it is a "breaking in period". Sad thing is I've gone to Sam Ash and touched the 2500 and 5k, and while they did feel better than my mpd32, they didn't come close to what I remember that 4k being...

Maybe I'm in love with the 4k.

Originally I thought about selling my mpd32 on ebay, then buying the pad control. However in an effort to be as economical as possible, I'm thinking about purchasing replacement pads for $30.00 for the mpd32.

On the way out of Sam Ash I touched the MPC2500 a little. Those pads are WAY different than what is in my MPD32. If I can purchase mpc2500 pads and put them in my mpd32 for $30.00, it might be a better way forward than auctioning my mpd32 and shelling out $199.99 for the PadKontrol.

Even if the pads make the feeling of my mpd acceptable I still have to deal with Akai's terrible end user support, and the rather poor program that came with the MPD32 for pad assingment.

I'm torn on what to do. But I know spending $30.00 is easier than spending $199.99 and admitting I made a bad purchase in the beginning.
