MPC 1000 vs MC-808

i know this has been discussed before, but I am still debating this question and would like some more insight on the matter.

both machines seem to be able to do everything i want them to do, with the exception of the 808 lacking velocity sensitive pads and a couple of glitches/shortcomings, both of which i can get over however.

my main question is, how does the workflow process compare with these 2 machines?

i've owned a 2000xl before and liked it, so i know what the akai mpc's are all about. but I am very curious about roland's workflow. is it more intuitive, or easier and faster to get an idea out vs. the mpc's?

i know this is all relative and dependent on the person, but i want to hear YOUR experiences and YOUR opinions.

I played around the the MC-808 and didn't like it at all. It's extremely limited as far as the sequencer is concerned. So it's not my choice for sequencing MIDI gear.

Since this topic belongs in the MPC Comparison Forum, I'll move it there. Plus I'm sure you'll get more responses with it being in that forum as well.

You thought wrong!




To get the most out of the 808 you have to use the software app that comes with it. That said it will hold it's own any day of the week. The small display is no fun but if you hook it up to the USB in your PC/Mac the older MPCs can't touch it.

The workflow is different than an MPC but not more complicated. I would stop by GC and check it out for yourself. If you want more than just a static sampler the 808 is it. If a dedicated sampler or particular sound is your thing- the MPC.

The 808's sound are on point.

*The 808 is expandable to 512Mb with standard PC133 ram - $50 at best

*CF up to 1GB

*128 voice polyphony
