Well, I figured I'd be the first to kick it off on comparing these two beast. There's a lot of new features on the 5k geared towards those that want an all in one box. But my feelings are that the 4k is more of a "musicians sampler", or geared towards us keyboard players since one of it's stronger points is it's keygroup feature, higher bitrate, memory and a few other things. However, I do like some of the new implemented features put into the new 5k but it's still not considered an upgrade to a lot of us 4k users.

I'd like to see a comparison chart also.

Even though I'm no where near interested in buying the 5000, Im keeping my eye on the 4k especially if I find one for a good price. The 4k already has all the sh!t I would like but I been lookin at the 2500 since I've been checking otu the 4k forums for bugs and at the time, I didnt think the 4k was worth it with all the bugs and the aksys bugs.

Most bug talk about the 4k is from people who
a) don't use one
b) don't own one
c) want it to do things in a way other than it's design
d) people repeating stuff that was a problem from earlier OS versions

save up til you've got enough dough for a 4k.

or sell your 2kxl and add some more to get it.

the way i see it, the value of your 2kxl will start to decline. Might as well get rid of it now when you can still get a decent amount for it.

When I sold my 4000 my highest bid was $1758 back in August. Now dudes want $2000 no stuttering. A lot are strictly BIN $2000+ on eBay.

Let's get the facts out there......

If an MPC 4000 user switches to an MPC 5000, what functions/features will that person lose?

If an MPC 4000 user switches to an MPC 5000, what functions/features will that person gain?

    1)high sampling rate
    2)note capacity
3)allotted number of sequences, tracks per seq, & songs
    4)memory
    5)keygroup feature
    6)akai sys

The new features are geared more towards sampling which is cool but not a neccessity. The added synth and arpeggiator is a plus but not a must have. And the 8 track hd recorder is nice but not enough to warrant a purchase. Bottom line, if most of the 4k features were kept and implemented into the 5k along with the new features, then I'd say we've got a winner.

* Mediocre Virtual Analog Synth - I have Several VA's and Analog Synths, so don't gain
anything by this.

* 8 Track Direct To Disk recording. - while this ability is not on the 4000, we do have the ability to record 64 Tracks to RAM, and with the 512M of RAM, covers most "Song" needs (if the 5000 had 8 Inputs, now that would be something to talk about!)

* "Patched Phrases" - 4000 users already essentially have this feature with "Slice and Sequence" funciton

* Stereo Slicing --- the 4000 has had that all along ;)

* Arpeggiator - my Waldorf Q Rack has 16 Arps, one for each Midi Channel and it's implementation of an Arp is much nicer :) so personally I don't need one myself, but it is nice for those who don't already have access.

* Modular 4 Bus FX... hey wait... we already have that on the 4000
:P

** Pad Mute Groups - Now THIS IS SOMETHING. Of course, I specifically requested this for the MPC 4000 over 3 years ago, but it appears that they have finally figured out how to implement it in the 5000...

** Continuous Sample Track - ensures samples play in perfect sync no matter where you start the beat in a loop
That's a nice feature... I can get the same effect, if I use the "Slice and Sequence" feature of the 4000.

Cheers,
Dave

Dave really nailed it!

You will also have less sound banks on the 5000.

Actually, I've got a Syntecno TeeBee mkIII which does a SUPERB job of 303 emulation, especially when hooked up to the Mobius or P3 Sequencers...

So I'll pass ... of course, if I find a TB 303 for $50 like my Friend Rob, I wouldn't be passing it up...

If a person has a 4000 why buy a 5000 at all?

Grab the Fantom G6 to knock with the 4K for less money fully blown and forget about the 5000 altogether.
