this thread is dedicated to all things realated to workflow "shortcuts". I always seem to think i know of em all then discover something new, thought it would be a good idea if we can concentrate all that info into one thread.

These dont necessarily have to be button shortcuts, but could also be "workflow" shortcuts too, meaning a way to accomplish a single task as quickly as possible.

please try to be as detailed as possible, including OS Version, and/or steps 1,2,3,etc., window names, etc.

not really a short cut but could speed up naming files:

I have a folder called !NAMES!, so it shows up as the first one in the save dialogue. There are numerous ghost WAV files (ghost meaning very small) with different names such as: snare, kick, guitar BPM, beat BPM, break, loop BPM, electronic, acoustic, etc.... Basically words that I often use in file names, so when I need to save a sample, prog, etc... Instead of naming the file I just go to the !NAMES!, copy the name, go back to the file I wanna save and paste the word and then maybe add the tempo and a number.

I don't like the way you have to use the data wheel and the right cursor button to name files, I'm right handed so turning the data wheel with the left hand an pushing the right cursor button with the right hand is pain in the ass for me. I wish there would be an F1-6 button for enter, so you could push it with your left hand and the cursor would automatically move one space to the right.

wow. cyrus haha i was considering making a thread for shortcuts yesterday when i posted that. crazy.
can i add 2 "shortcut thread" organization related tips: you should consider monitoring this thread if it gets unreadably long and copying the best shortcuts into your 1st 2 posts. second, people posting shortcuts should refer to the manual for screenshots or documentation on the shortcuts (if it exists).

--------
shortcut: jump to the end of the sequence. version: all versions.

hold SHIFT and press PLAY. this will take you to the last tick of the last bar in your sequence. handy for getting back to your drumfill so you can edit it without scrollling through the whole sequence.

-----------

shortcut: copy parameter in GPE. version: os2xl

hit the pad whose param you want to copy. move to the intended param and hold UNDO SEQ. tap the pad to which you want to copy the param. DONE - the param is now copied from the first pad to the last pad touched. this is how i do almost all my pgm editing now.

documentation: go to this page: http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2xl/gpe.htm and find "undo seq" for more details

I didn't know that one. It made my day :D

--------
delete two or more samples (handy for audiotracks)

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2xl/sample_list.htm

When you want to choose and delete two or more samples.
Image
Please choose samples with a DATA wheel or cursor button, holding F2 (DELETE) button.
Image
If it finishes choosing, please release F2 (DELETE) button.
The window of "Delete Sample" opens.
Image
Deletion will be performed if F5(DO IT) button is pressed.
The number currently displayed on the screen right is the number of the samples to delete.

---------
old shortcut before there was the option of creating a new program with NDC (can be useful for other things now)

Keep pressing a pad then to go a parameter and press the bottom arrow. It will copy the parameter to the next pad in GPE

(edit: can be a pain in the ass if you have a simulted pad just under the simulting pad sometimes)

---------
multiple selection :
in GPE SHIFT + DOWN ARROW (ALL will highlight)

PEAce

^ ah, thanks, will edit. haha i'm probably not the best candidate for writing up some of these tips because i have no lettering on my mpc and i'm writing this from memory, hence the confusion.

Haha still the same MPC you used for your youtube tutorials?
I hope you will never have to enter numbers with the pads lol

haha yeah same MPC.

I hope you will never have to enter numbers with the pads lol

oh i do it all the time, that and type. muscle memory. i stopped looking at the lettering loooong before sanding it all off. i couldn't tell you which button is which unless i can touch it. my fingers know but my conscious brain does not.

SEQ EDIT is one big old mess of shortcuts. it could stand to be pimped out visually but it's so great if you know exactly what you want to do (and when, and for how many pads/keys).

On MPC2500 I do - hold GOTO and press bar left/right to skip to the end or the beginning.

Sorry for the mistake but in fact SHIFT + PLAY START works :)
It brings back to the first bar.

I must admit I'm an idiot because it's obvious when looking at the lettering

those who haven't seen the video, when chopping:

say you have a drum break that you're chopping into oneshots
and it has 18 drum hits in it
when slicing, do not set 18 separate regions. in fact, scroll back until you only have 2 regions.
set the end point of the first region to a transient, and then hit divide.
set the new end point to a transient and hit divide
continue to divide until you have sliced all of the bits of the first chunk to oneshots, then move on to the second original chunk

much much faster, "divide" does a lot of the legwork for you.

Here is the locate part of the 1K :

Image

It's valid for the MAIN SCREEN and other modes.

In os2xl grid edit the combination SHIFT + DATA WHEEL moves one step forward or backward and SHIFT + BAR allow to go to START or END.

I saw the video the other day, it made me notice that I could chop samples on the MPC faster than in e.g. Ableton  :)

Would be cool with divide in non destructive chop mode! I just realized how fast this works, wow.
