What up kinfolk?!!! I have the JJ OS1 and 2 on an MPC 1000 for travel use and JJ OS1 and 2 on a 2500 for studio use. Lately my production has switched from MPC and Rack set ups to MPC and using the PC as a sound module with Reason 4, NI Komplete 5 plugins, and IK Multimedia Total Studio2 plugin sets. I use the MPC as a sequencer and save the instrument configurations on whatever software instrument I am using. I save the sequence on the MPC as a midi file. Open the midi file in my DAW using Battery 3 or Guru for my Drums and then just loading up whatever VST's I used in standalone mode with the MPC. I have not dumped track in a while using this method and it works for my production style and workflow. With what I have just described which JJ OS would be best for what I am doing right now? I want what is best, not what is buggy... LOL.

let me know what u can.

thanks,

i have to say that based on what you are doing it sounds like OS 2XL would be your best bet.
(somewhere Nym just had a heart attack hearing me give 2XL props)

2XL has the superior grid edit, plus good fine grained sequencing tools like quantize strength and supposedly in the future swing will be changeable on the fly even with recorded notes. also the arp & chord mode.

there are definitely still some bugs but when those get fixed it should be all good.

but i have to say, it sounds like you're using only 10% of what your mpcs can do. why even use them at all? just to generate MIDI files that you import into your DAW? just get a pad controller & sequence right in your DAW. then you can donate your mpcs to me for giving you such excellent advice.

I personally have not found a midi drum controller that felt even half as good as a mpc and besides it so much more fun using the mpcs sequencer to control Reason or Logic. Much better workflow. plus mpcs are so cheap now-a-days why not spend a lil more and get a full fledged hardware sequencer and awesome pads ???

Those are my thoughts too!!! I have tried the MPD24 and the Korg PadKontrol and it ain't the same as bangin out beats and sequencing on the MPC. Any further or more elaborate sequenceing I need to do I utilize the DAW. I wind up giving away the MPD24 but I still use the PadKontrol for playin keyz and synths (Got my scales and chords programmed as templates in there for the melodies).

On this tread I only got one commet answering the question of OS2 XL being the best sequecing JJ OS.... Anybody else got a say on which JJ OS is best for sequencing?

thanks for the feedback thus far.

Nym doesn't have heart attacks, he attacks hearts ;)

OS 2XL for sequencer editing 100%. Hopefully after a bug fix or two it'll be perfected.

The unpredictable nudge editing seems to be putting a few people off, myself included.

I'd like to just get XL and stick with it to be honest. It seems like a backward step to buy XL to then switch to 2 if that makes any sense? I've only had my 2500 for a week and have no experience of the simult feature that people seem to miss so much, so i'm guessing that I wont miss a feature I have never used.

Your music might be missing the results of that feature though

Well i've had the 2Kxl for 10 years and never used it on that either!

Started experimenting with OS2 XL sequencing using Kore 2 software edition as a sound module. Workflow was tight and did not experience any bugs or glitches. I think I am going to ride with this XL. Thnx for all the comments about this question.
