Pattern mode (with more than 1 drum sound )

Don't suppose there's a way to do this - and I've looked through the manual, but I've just started to use pattern mode in jjos 2xl and love it.

Using pattern mode seems nice and simple but it seems limited to 1 'sound' - what I'd like to know if there is a way of editing a pattern but having (for example) both a kick and a snare at once in the same pattern (not necessarily on the same beat of course).

At the moment - only way I see this is to make a pattern with the kick then 'manually' add the snare in 'normal' mode.

Any pattern edit geniuses out there who can come up with a better idea ?

in os2 you can select different chops from the non destructive chop assigned to that pad, but thats not in 2xl. i think its selected on the pattern screen by pressing left cursor when hovering on 'pitch' but dont have mpc in front of me to check

edit: mpc in front of me now.

- from 'main' press 'main'
- in 6 pad view of sequencer view press window
- scroll down to 'tune'
- roll wheel clockise when hovering over 'tune' until it becomes 'chop'
- ndc chops 1-32 can be selected

no its not in xl, that was removed to make way for ground breaking features such as arpeggio. enjoy.

Not sure if I've understood this correctly...but can't you just press the pad you need and enter the pattern data, press the next pad and repeat, etc, etc....?

yeah, i was thinking the same thing. you hit the pads to switch from one sound to the other. you have access to all 16 in your A bank.

the pattern mode in the JJ OS was made to mimic the old "XOX" style of sequencing on old school drum machines. each line of the pattern only controlled one sound at a time. to do otherwise would get very confusing in terms of control and interface, especially with the limited space available on the MPC display.

in pattern mode, you only edit the pattern for one sound at a time (kick, snare, etc.), but while in this mode you can just hit the pads to jump to the different sounds you have loaded and edit their patterns - very quick and easy.

but if you want to see the big picture of all the sounds at once, you have no choice but to exit pattern mode and view all 6 (or 16) pads in GRID EDIT.
