As far as I know, OS2XL can only pass MIDI CCs through to other synths/samplers via MIDI. In other words, you can't control the MPC's internal sample engine via external CCs, but you can use external CCs to control external modules and record it/play it back in the MPC's sequencer.
As far as MMC, The OS2XL implementation is pretty straight forward, in that it will send and receive the usual play, stop, return to zero (etc.) messages.
I believe OS2XL does not deal with Sysex either. Meaning that it will not respond to Sysex messages, and it will not record them or pass them through.

I don' t thinks its not possible at all. There is CC 71 and 74 controlling filter and resonance or CC controling pitchbend - it works fine when i send these messages from midi keyboard to the mpc. The question is if there are some others CC to control ex. volume of the active track, tempo etc...
real men use real hardware!

No, there are no cool and obvious intrinsic features like you have mentioned beyond controlling filter/res/pitch via midi cc for an mpc program. Do not expect it in the future either as JJ stated he will not be doing so.
More in depth midi support was planned for OS2xl before its release then canned right after it came out even though people were already buying it. That was not a cool thing to do and I would have asked for a refund were I to have purchased OS2XL.
I believe the original akai os for this generation of mpcs is also lacking the same features.
