four questions ! (folder stuff...)

Hello everybody,

Some questions :

1) imagine I always use a huge soundbank for all my songs
( a program : RHODES.PGM that is rather big).

every time I save a new project in a dedicated folder
(with "SAVE ENTIRE MEMORY"), it saves this soundbank again !!!
(waste of space!)

how to have a "common folder" for favorites PGM ?
(so no need to save it in each Project folder !)


2) Is there a mean to clean /purge the whole memory (including used samples) in order to have the same result than switch off / switch off ?


3) When i go back to OS1 from OS2XL (using TAP TEMPO + SWITCH ON), it always
loads the INTERNAL memory instead of AUTOLOAD folder... how to solve this ?


4) how to convert PGMs from OS1 to OS2XL ?
(problem with number of PAD -> shifted)

1. Before saving you are asked
"Replace same samples" Select NO

You Have to save the samples in the same folder as the .pgm other wise they will not be found.

2. In program mode, highlight a sample press window, press window again
F1 "PURGE".

To answer your Question: You can make/save a Blank Project Template and just Load that up everytime you want a fresh start.

3. Mode + Load + A.Load

4. You will have to redo those .PGM's.

in the folder of my song/project, the soundbank
that is already in my folder /MYSOUNDBANKS/

3. i've done it several times, but when I switch from OS2XL to OS1
(with TAP TEMPO pushed when POWER ON), it brings me back
the INTERNAL as AUTOLOAD !!
how to remove once for all this INTERNAL sounds ?

4. aw..... when JJ shifted all the pads by +1, he knew that all people
would have to redo their PGMs. hasn't he coded a feature to convert
PGM from OS1 to OS2 ?

Ok, I understand.
You have a specific folder where you have all your fav .pgm's right?
And you want to save your projects in the same folder also right?

Thats not a good way to do it.


When saving a Project, always Make a new folder, name it and save your project
("Save entire Memory") inside that folder.

This way you can keep your HD/CF nice and organize and all your samples will be FOUND and they will be the same way you left them..

I know it seems like a waste of space to do that, but its the most efficient way.
You can also transfer whole project folders to your PC for safe keeping and to free disk space on your MP when you need too.

You will just have to reset it when switching OS's
Remove the AUTOLOAD folder from your CF or Make yourself a custom autoload that will load your FAV .pgms on startup.

Not that I know of. I haven't used OS1 in ages lol.

Try MPCMaid it works on PC and MAC. It's a free PGM Maker for the 500/1000/2500.
Its free, google dat.

Please tell me more about how OS2 shifts the note numbers, is it one half-step? Is OS1 the same as default akai?

I dont know if it shifts it, i think it rearranges it. either way, os1 pgms are messed up when loaded into os2. its not just programs........my tracks that use a midi channel are messed up too.

when i bought os2 i created a new folder called os2xl and all my new beats go in there, then when i load up an old one, i reload the os1 .............. i got too many beats to be spending time converting each one.

its really just the midi note numbers that dont correspond, which is fixable, its just a pain in the ass. it seems like mpcmaid or even jj os could create some kind of function to convert things........dunno, i see why he made the change, it makes sense, more standard to how midi keyboards are layed out, it just sucks for backwards compatability.
