Hi all,

I'm on a 1k running jj os2 v1.30 and I'm having some weird stuff happen.

First off maybe once a week or so when I power up the mpc it just sits on the jj os screen and does nothing. Sometimes if I cycle the power a few times it will work, sometimes if I start up os1 it will work then, and sometimes if I just let the thing sit for a while it will figure it out.

Second, just as frequently as the freeze up problem I load up a project and the mpc puts out no sound. Neither sample playback nor input thru will give me anything. If I cycle the power once or twice it seems to work.

I might be imagining things but it seems like I get these bugs when I haven't powered up the mpc for a few days.

Any ideas out there for this? I might have read somewhere that a hard drive on its way out can cause the freeze on start up. Hopefully that's the issue as it's relatively cheap to replace. By the way the no-sound problem was happening on os1, os2 1.29 and 1.30, so I don't think it's an os issue. The startup issue seemed to come up with os2 but I might be remembering that wrong...

Thanks!

I though I should add that I've done the erase button startup as well and it did nothing.

the startup problem could be a bad hard drive or bad ram. either way make sure you back up all your stuff IMMEDIATELY just in case the hard drive dies on you. hard drives are relatively cheap these days so maybe get a new one and see if that solves the problem. i'd do it soon because if the hard drive is corrupted or has bad blocks on it you could be saving your projects but they are not getting saved properly at all and when you next go to load them they could be all corrupted and you will have no way of getting that data back. otherwise you might have some bad ram or the ram might not be seated properly in the slot.

the no sound issue is just one of those weird obscure bugs. i get the same thing. i solve it by just reloading the program (no need to power down), and the second time around it just works. who knows what is causing it. :?

Word. I've been backing up religiously since this started.

It's weird but last night it happened again and I shook the mpc a little bit after it sat for a while. It went straight to the main screen as soon as I did that, bypassing my splash screen. I guess I need to open her up and check all the connections. And yeah, drives and ram are both relatively cheap so maybe I'll just replace them both.

Sucks about the sound issue. Sounds like this is a known bug? Can't jj fix this? I want to use the mpc live but it needs to be more reliable.

Well, for anyone who has this happen in the future the problem seemed to be the CF card. 20+ startups without issue. I really never even used the thing except to have a custom splash screen, but I can do without that especially since the thing starts up SO much faster without a CF card in it. So finger crossed in case this comes back but it seems to have been the problem.
