Got a 2500 off ebay with JJ OS version 1.23. Seems fine enough but when I follow the manual on how to EXTRACT part of a sample, the screen I get seems to be missing a few options. Like, there ain't no "EDIT" option at all. I'm new to the 2500 but I ain't exactly no newbie. I'm hip 2 these these AKAIs. (got the very 1st one they made bak N tha' day. A 60 I think. I didn't get the one with the pads cause I couldn't afford it, but I had it almost rolling over and playing dead before I sold it.)
Anyways...
I just wanna know:
1. is this option not really on this screen (in the "mode" + "f6" path) even though it says it is in the manual because the manual is not for the new OS? Or is it hidden behind some other button like "shift" or "window" or somethin'....
2. is it just somewhere else?
Thanks in advance everybody-
and I hope I didn't make none a y'all old MPC headz mad-
All U guys really rock! I know cuz I spent so much time reading through this site... I learned a ton o stuff... just not what I was looking for. So sorry if its somewhere else already and I just missed it. If it is, just direct me to it if you will. Can't believe no one else out there has had this problem...
Also, if there is an up to date manual in PDF somewhere out there, I'd like to know about it. I can't help feeling that this manual don't really go with this OS.
And lastly, is this the last version of the JJ OS for the 2500 or is there another one?

Hi,
Welcome to the internet!
This is google: http://www.google.com
This is the homepage of the JJ OS: http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/
As you can see, the latest version for mpc 2500 is 2.04

There is realy no need to stay on jj os 1.23 and feel free to update because the latest version brings several revolutionary functions.

The reason why the screen may seem different is:
1) You are running official 1.23 akai os and using the manual for jj os
2) You are following official akai manual (the printed one) and you have JJ OS which is little bit different.

Anyway - first check if you really have JJ OS (MODE + PAD 10)...

Cheers

M.

Hey thanks! I discovered what my problem was like as soon as I had posted my request for help. Weird how that always happenz... the problem was I had not turned off the "slice" function. I noticed when I did, the other "edit" option appeared and everything from there flowed.
But what's this about a new operating system!?! I am curious about those mysterious "revolutionary new functions" you mentioned... I wanna check it out but I'm a little 'noid about the sequences I've made not being compatible with that new OS.
Do you know better than this, or am I just being paranoid?
Thanks (mate?) mam?

If it's JJOS2 v1.23 that you have and you upgrade to JJOS XL then your OS2 sequences will get all screwed up. You can save them somewhat though. Check http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/xl/important.htm.

If you have JJOSXL v1.23 then update it to the latest version.
Also, if you have JJOS2 then update it to the latest version (1.26) here -> http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/old_os.htm.

Just one more question- will my old OS sounds and samples be compatible or will they get screwed up too?
and I too miss my "Speak and Spell". Those things were funky.

Just save the internal OS sounds to a folder on your HD or CF card. You can set up any folder or two to load automatically on startup in JJOSXL.

Samples are just samples. They shouldn't get screwed up. It's the program settings that are different.
My advice, just install JJOSXL and try it. You can use it without a password, you just can't save anything.

Lol at your sig. Is that a dig that I have my link to my soundcloud small? lolz :P
