By default if I'm editing a program; if there's a midi note recieved at the input the corresponding pad will be chosen. At least in drum programs. Generally this is good.

However I have situations where I would still like to have the MPC playing (according to the midi notes recieved) but I would like to edit one particuilar pad at a time. Obviously this doesn't work if new pads gets selected all the time.

So is there some way to either "lock" pad selection or disable the automatic midi-in-pad-selection?

No, maybe I'm a bit unclear.

This is a situation where I'm using MPC as a sampler only so midi is sent from antoher sequencer.

I've got a rythm going from the other sequencer so midi is sent to the MPC.
Now I want to edit say the filter of one sample/pad but keep the rythm going so I hear how the change works in the context. This will not work since the pad of the last played note (which will change all the time) will be selected. So if I select A05 and there's a midinote for another note recieved my selection is lost.

This is different compared to working with internal sequences where pad is only performed by manual selection.

Of course I can stop my external sequencer, edit the pad and then start again.
But it would be more fun to be able to edit while the sequencer is running...

How about this:
Turn multi timbral on
Send you midi notes to channel 1( for example)
Also Put the program you want on channel 2 (for exampl)
Do the edits on channel 2 - adjustments will be reflected on any track with this pgm on,but as the track your viewing is not receiving data it shouldn't flicker about.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried this! :D

If we have a multitimbral now, there should be a midi filter on input as well... :-(
Nothing complex but only a simple possibility to filter inbound midi note or cc messages....

Yep I've tried it and it works

To recap: turn multitimbral on, put the program you want to edit on any track of 1 to 16 that isn't receiving MIDI(or tracks 17 up that don't receive MIDI). the other instance of the pgm can be on any track that is receiving.

Hadn't updated for a while.
The multitimbre function is great and I can edit the programs exactly as you described.
[SOLVED]
Many other new improvments. :D
