can i add 2 "shortcut thread" organization related tips: you should consider monitoring this thread if it gets unreadably long and copying the best shortcuts into your 1st 2 posts. second, people posting shortcuts should refer to the manual for screenshots or documentation on the shortcuts (if it exists).

--------
shortcut: jump to the end of the sequence. version: all versions.

hold SHIFT and press PLAY. this will take you to the last tick of the last bar in your sequence. handy for getting back to your drumfill so you can edit it without scrollling through the whole sequence.

-----------

shortcut: copy parameter in GPE. version: os2xl

hit the pad whose param you want to copy. move to the intended param and hold UNDO SEQ. tap the pad to which you want to copy the param. DONE - the param is now copied from the first pad to the last pad touched. this is how i do almost all my pgm editing now.

documentation: go to this page: http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2xl/gpe.htm and find "undo seq" for more details

for sure.

Skillet wrote:In JJOS2XL, how do you set ALL in program mode to a range of pads, not actually all of them? I'm sure I read how to here but it's one of those things that's impossible to search for.

Sorry to quote myself :

Here is the locate part of the 1K :

Image

It's valid for the MAIN SCREEN and other modes.

In os2xl grid edit the combination SHIFT + DATA WHEEL moves one step forward or backward and SHIFT + BAR allow to go to START or END.

My bad, the underlined part was half wrong

Little precision :
If TC=OFF, TAP TEMPO + DATA WHEEL = SHIFT + DATA WHEEL = move to the next tick
If TC=ON, TAP TEMPO + DATA WHEEL = move to the next tick accordingly to TC

Bug fixes & Addition:MPC1000 OS2XL Ver3.04 11-OCT-2011
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<<Change>>
1. [GRID]

Behavior of the STEP button was changed.
When the type of a track is DRUM, a vertical marker is moved to the next event or back event on a horizontal marker, by a SHIFT+ <BAR> button.

Prior to os2xl v3.04 SHIFT + <BAR> = move to the next event (line+column)
Now with 3.04 SHIFT + <BAR> = move to the next event on the same line

(re-edit : the confusion in my first post came from the fact I tried with an empty track, because when there are no events SHIFT + <BAR> = move to start/end bar)

Nym's explanations :

^ i requested that one. it's tricky to explain but extremely useful.

the best way to explain is to go into MIDI grid, record a performance, then go back to the start.
then, hit shift+bar >
note that the cursor moves to the next note
continue to hit shift+bar>
note that the cursor moves to the next note again (and so on).
the best part about this is for editing specific notes timings then quickly moving to the next instead of whirlin the data wheel.

now, in DRUM edit, the old behavior was to move the cursor horizontally, but not vertically.
so if you recorded pad A01 and pad A16 and tried to "move to next note"
vertically, you'd still be on A01 but horizontally you'd be at the time of A16.

this is good for editing NV data
but it's also especially powerful for various macros.

in program mode (im using jjos 2xl, but i think it works for all jjos)

highlight one sample then push shift+f6 to highlight all samples

When trimming or chopping a sample, I notice that some pads play it backwards, and some select the start and end, and some play outside the selection. Has anyone written up exactly what each pad does?

Yeah it's in the online manual :)

Notes
PAD9-PAD12 work, as shown in the following figure.
Image

If PAD1-PAD4 is pressed, a sample will be playback by NOTE ON.
If PAD5-PAD8 is pressed, a sample will be playback by ONE SHOT.
A sample will be reverse-played back if PAD3 and PAD7 are pressed.
Moreover, a start or an end point can be adjusted, carrying out audition, if a DATA wheel is turned pressing a pad (PAD1-PAD4 and PAD9-PAD12).
If PAD1, PAD2, PAD5, PAD6, PAD9, and PAD10 are pressed, cursor will move to St field.
If PAD3, PAD4, PAD7, PAD8, PAD11, and PAD12 are pressed, cursor will move to End field.
If PAD9-PAD12 and PAD14-PAD16 are pressed, the waveform of a play portion will blink.
It works similarly on the screen of F5 (CHOP).
However, there is no reverse playback of PAD3 and PAD7.

MODE button + DATA WHEEL = TRACK - or TRACK +

At one point there was a SEQ + or SEQ - shortcut. I don t remember if it s still there.

In 2.30 (don't know about 3.xx yet):

NEXT SEQ button + DATA WHEEL = SEQUENCE - or SEQUENCE +

Hold down the button above the first q-link slider and hit a pad to select that track. (JJOS2XL)

Wait for key recording :

Recording can be started by hit pad or the receive of MIDI note.

If [REC] or the [OVER DUB]+[STOP] button is pressed, it will be in the standby state of recording.
At this time, "Wait any pad or MIDI note" is displayed on the lower part of a screen.
Image
If a pad is hit in this state or MIDI note is received, recording will start.
At this time, the pad event or MIDI note hit in order to start recording is also recorded.

The grid mode of [MODE]+PAD15 can also use this function.
