bit convert in trim edit. bit grunge as an fx. timestretch in trim edit. resampling through various effect, pitch, combinations.

it can get you some grittiness, but not necessarily exactly like some of those old school samplers.

I suggested an emu sp1200, mpc3000,mpc60, etc. emulation mode in the past here in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=148055&hilit=emulation

your not gona get a true 12 bit sound out of it, but what cyrus said, and also maybe try applying efx with your daw beforehand.
they might be a little bit better for finding that type of sound than your newer model mpc.

i think adaucity has some effects and its free if you dont have a regular daw.

what about edit > pitchshifting your samples? i ve been using this a lot lately. for example whatever sound i record into the mp, then i pitchshift it -1, so all the samples sound much dirtier. what do you think of the pitchshifting sound? i know these things are subjective, but id like to hear other people opinions. edit: for example, personally, although i like the dirty sound, i dont like the sound of bitgrunger at all, so i dont use it.
