What does the "release" function do in Sliced samples?

When you slice up a sample, it gives you the option to set a numeric "release" amount, like 0-9 I think. I still haven't figured out what this does. Does it just add fade out to simulate a slow release? It's either right before or after you choose to create a new program or not for your sliced samples. Any help?

basically it acts like a "fade out" it means when does the decay release, like if you chop an 8 bar break, then play the 8 parts with the release turned up to 20 there will be a silence between each sample do to the fade out, experiment and you'll see what i mean

It creates an artificial tail at the end of each chop.

in my opinion it's usually better to do this using loop modes in TRIM + release in your amp envelope in GPE. more control.

is this even an option in os2xl anymore? if so i've completely blocked it from memory.
