Hi,

i have just bought a mpc and now i'm not shure if i should bring it back, because an important function is missing. Now i want to ask if jj os could give me this feature. I have to say im also new to all this electro stuff. Normally i "just" play guitar. Thats the problem. Because i have samples on my mpc (173 bpm.). These samples are other guitars, bass, violins, etc. I have connected a FCB1010 Midi Footcontroller to tap the tempo and send it to my mpc (with mainstage 2). That works. But i must change the tempo of the mpc samples on the fly by tap the tempo on my FCB1010. The manuel of MPC says that have to slice the samples and make a patched sample... but this sound horrible. I hear a lot of cuts in the patched sample. I just want to play the sample in the tempo what the tap says (mainstage sends this tempo). I saw this video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzCfNodqQBw
This is what i want. But not with a fader. I want to tap it... is this possible with jj os? and if yes, which version should i buy? Can i test it before buying. And can i reload the old version, if something does not work?

I have a black mpc 1000 with 3.13 jj os... the version which is on mpc when they bought it.

Yep, 'nother YouTuber that thinks tempo shifting + pitch correction = "timestretching". Sad especially when there are so many online resources that explain the difference so well.

So yeah just to review, NONE of the stand-alone MPC products have real-time automatic tempo synced timestretching OR automatic tempo synced pitch correction. "Real" timestretching is only available as destructive non-realtime edit mode option and tempo shift/pitch correction (if available) is manual only as shown in the video.

I'm aware that the Roland MV series has realtime timestretch. Elektron Octatrack also comes to mind. I can't vouch for sound quality of either (esp with large tempo shifts) since I have little or no direct experiece with those devices. Heavy-duty timestrech and auto timestrech have tended to be DAW territory as it's best done on the latest heavy duty processors i.e. not what you would find in an MPC.

When you make the patched phrase in the mpc make sure you set RELEASE to 0.

Why not just cut the samples up? I know it takes time, but that's how it goes when you want to make art ;-)

Learn to chop better. Patched phrases can work well if chopped by the transients instead of normal chop. ya feel me??
Slowing patched phrases does not work as well as speeding them up, but still doable.
Any pitch shifting or time stretching more than 10% will always cause problems like aliasing. If it is a big leap of BPM then try time stretching it a few times a little amount then chop. This way it is not such a huge leap in BPM and less obviously.
