Ive been using jjos for a long time and i decided to update my os. When i did it would say flash...something or other error. Anyway i tried to do a clean install by loading the free version then the most current xl version. Heres the problem, now my mpc is in some sort of boot loop where it tells me the name of the os over and over again!!! This sucks, i use logic so im able to work still but my mpc is on its death bed reading its will to me! I saw that i would need the original cf card and the akai os to revive it but i bought mine off ebay and it came with some other card. Long story short i emailed akai and have not heard back from them so i thought i would ask y'all! Thanks for any help!!

Make sure the card is formatted as FAT32.

Thats a 10-4! still no go. This sucks in a major way! i have to get back into software sequencing. load my drums into battery and track out of my interface to hit my preamps. I use a duet so its rather simple. Thanks for the help and if anyone else has any ideas please feel free to share!

Take out your RAM extension. That might be not in correctly and can cause probs.
Yep it i best to format card in MPC, but then you can not get it working , and since you can not see CF card to load then its not an option it seems. I never heard of problem with FLASH ROM. Try booting with out holding button.
To swap OSs between JJOS free and JJOSXL you need to hold down the TAP TEMPO button NOT the WINDOW button. Try that when you boot and see if it changes start screen.

I was saying this stuff about the original CFs a while back. My 2500 wouldn't load any OS unless it was on the original CF - quite a few disagreed with that - but my 2500 CF reader was 100% and the cards I tried using were preformatted by the 2500 in akai OS. It just wouldn't load the OS's

After I got JJ in it would load from any old card. So that proved the other CFs were fine & the reader was working, and that there was something different about the original Akai CF.

I'm quite keen to see how this problem is resolved for future reference though. The FAT32 thing would be interesting to see if it works. But it's mad for the 2500 not to load from a card it has itself formatted.

My theory was that there was some embedded code in the original CF or something, though that idea got pooh poohed. :?

Please Post if you get it working. :)

PS. my other CFs were Verbatim - If others have never had this issue I'm curious to what their cards were.

bliprock 2 thumbs ups on the suggestion and i did give it a try...no go! Lz roberts im using a sandisk 512 and a Patriot 16g. Ok, the sandisk came with the mpc. my computer reads this card using a card reader. I have a mac but also have windows on it using boot camp. I formatted the cf card on the mac side and it did it fat or something like that and then i dropped the akai os on it and....No go! So I switched over to the pc side and i can format it either fat or fat32, i tried both and....No go! I put jjos on there and held down tap tempo like it was suggested and still its a no go!
Neither mac or pc would read the Patriot, it was formatted using the mpc. maybe if i can get the os on the patriot then i might be in there! anyway, i might order the sound card they are selling on the akai site maybe it will be formatted something similar to the original (i do have plenty of drum samples). Ill keep yall updated but for now im a few beats later in logic! Peace 2 Each!

My mpc is now decoration in my studio! once a mighty beat creator now a lowly paper weight! Feel free to pour out a little liquor!

I'm pretty sure the MPC will format the card FAT32 same as the PC would. But yeah I've had it where the card had to formatted in the machine but mostly I never have to do that.

I actually had that thing for a while where I could only load an OS from an Akai card, but it was the opposite as you LZ, it was always with JJOS that this would happen. Sometime in the last year the JJOS's started to load off any card I have here.

I'll just list those cards for good measure, Transcend 133x, Lexar Platinum 200x, SanDisk Ultra 15MB/s. All either 2 or 4GB working fine in both a 1000 and 2500 both with JJOS2XL.

mvee I hope you figure out what's causing that issue.
