Hi,
I am trying to make my MPC do MIDI looping, a bit like it does audio looping.

First, my studio setup: I play on an electronic drumkit, and I can send MIDI notes to the MPC to control it. With this, I want to be able to start and stop recording, erase a take, and overdub. Hopefully loops of different lengths, but thats optional. If I want to look at the MPC, or press front panel buttons then I need to get up and go across the room to the MPC (it's located with my synths and mixer and monitors) so this very unpleasent.

So, suggestions how I might be able to make a MIDI looper?

I made a major attempt using Patterns. First I mapped most of the MPC buttons and pads to midi notes. Then I set up sequences like this in the step editor:
1.0.0 REC-START (duration 2)
1.0.0 PLAY
5.0.0 STOP
5.0.0 PLAY
5.0.0 Main, F1 (loop), left left down down data- data- right right data+ data+ etc etc
The last bit is to turn on looping of a set length like 1-4
This sequence then becomes a pattern which I can trigger from the pad stats screen via a midi note. The pattern sends its data to a midi out which is connected to a midi in, and so triggers the front panel buttons.

Unfortunately I cant get this approach to work for many reasons (it frequently records the commands to the track along with the performance data, so gets confused on the playback pass, also, the loop changing commands are a pain, etc) Its also very easy to get lost in the navigation, and you cannot rearrange the order of the notes if they are at the same time in the sequence.

So I am giving up with that approach.
Would appreciate it if anyone has some other suggestions..., especially from those of you who recently gave the MPC 11 outta 10 for its MIDI control ability.
