i'd like to have my MPC setup so that i could hit "play" on either the MPC or reason and everything would be synced so i can compose basslines in reason but have drums on the MPC, etc.

any tips on how to do this? thanks for the help!

my opinion is that the jj sequencer is better/easier to navigate than Reason's sequencer, but what you might want is to sync via MIDI clock. this isn't as tight as MTC sync, but MTC requires a chase time that will skip the first couple notes of your seq in reason.

the goal for me doing this is simply to be able to hear both things at the same time, so for instance i'd be able to hear what i already have on the MPC and then compose in reason without having to export or load anything, you know what i mean? at the end of the day, i'd export and load whatever i do from reason and track it into pro tools from the MPC

It's doable. You need two midi cables one from your Keyboard to MPC. The other from the MPC to your computer.

Then slaving Reason to the MPC using MIDI. In the Reason menu click on 'Options' > then select 'Sync' > 'Midi Clock'. Then on MPC turn on MIDI sync out and set it to 'clock'. Now when you hit play on the MPC, Reason will follow the MPC's sequencer.

To play your bass lines with Reason synced to the MPC. Connect your midi keyboard to the MPC. Then create a midi track on the MPC and set it to use the midi output connected to the computer. That way when you play notes on the keyboard they get sent to Reason.

i'm able to get it synced now, so that when i hit play on my MPC it syncs with reason. however, reason won't let me record (or at least i can't figure it out). anyone know what i'm doing wrong?
