Hello there priests of the MPC !

Presently, I play live drums, with triggers that send midi to a Electribe ESX as a sound module. I use it as a SOUND MODULE first (b/c it's so quick/dirty to edit and set-up program) and barely ever run beats.
I use this setup to have VERY DIFFERENT sounding (extra) drum textures across different songs or parts of song.

As this system has evolved, I've become more attracted to the MPC, especially b/c of it's software editor support, so I'd look forward to just building kits on the Mac, and just the box to the drums.
...yes... I have a mental block about putting a laptop near my drumkit.

In addition to the Electribe's internal effects (which only work on Outs 1 & 2), I put a Kaoss Pad as an outboard effect processo in an Effects Loop..."kaoss-ed parts" go out of Output #4, into sampling/gating input, back out out #3... so that of the main outputs (the one only location for Internal Effects) remain free..
This gives me 3 DI lines of "drum extra" for the mix.
This is the most flexible-effect-able approach, but
The problem here is that the Electribe's sequencer has to be running to use the Audio In (in 4, out 3, as above).

HOWEVER, it looks like the MPC1000's InputThru feature of the JJOS might solve this problem (as well as offer many other improvements).

Can anyone confirm a few things.
...that audio in will pass THRU regardless of sequencer state.
...that this won't be affected by program/pattern changes, but can be saved/changed by Projects.

Also, I'd ideally like for the MPC to send Program Changes to the KP...so that I can set (and forget) any KP effect per Kit/Sequence
I know I can create PC messages in the MPC...
but HERE's the kicker... will/can those messages be sent if I change Patterns without running the sequencer.
I'd like to instantly change drum-sounds AND effects programs (on KP) while MPC remains STOPPED...

I really appreciate any help you can offer on this powerful (and sadly discontinued) MPC...

Hoping this is more solution than problem !
cheers brothers !

Yes audio will pass through regardless of the sequencer playing or not
Yes with a save all I think so but check JJOS versions to make sure. I use XL and it usually remembers the set up of input through and its FX and filters.
And no this is not effected by PCs from other gear. though the MPC does use em.

OK pcs and CCs can be sent with pad hits in JJOSXL and JJOS 3
That is it can be set up so that a pad can send a PC instead of a midi note to external device, also Qlinks can send MIDI CCs as well and this is saved in a program and all be used when MPC is stopped. Just like you want. Also pattern to pad allows more complicated instructions, say sysex, to be made into a pattern and that is then like the PCs assigned to a pad in a program to then send with a hit of the pad

Ithink that is all your questions sorted?

Wow.
Thanks for the fast and informative Reply.
Good ot know that Saving All/Project would handle my Thru settings.

I didn't even know about the PatternToPad could do that.
One question; if I use PatternToPad..
While I plan to keep the unit in NextPad mode (to switch Programs/Patterns) I 'd like to occasionally switch to use the Pads to fire off Notes or samples.
Will those complex Midi Messages ONLY send when I'm using NextPattern mode to trigger/switch sequences ?

What Happens if I put a PC right at the ZERO of a patterns time...0:00:000 (whateveR).
Will that MIDI send if Pattern is loaded w/o sequencer running ?
I imagine not, for the same reason a Note at 00:00 would (should) not.

The Complex Midi message scheduling seems like a viable workaround.
Can I set up a list of several different messages of the same type ?....
like one PC and a few CC's... this would REALLY open up the power of the KP.

suggests not so,
but also suggests that PCs aren't sent as you describe.

Just trying to fully look before I leap.
Again,
I appreciate your and everyone's insight.

All the pattern to pad is on the JJOSXL and JJOS 3 only, so that is extra money, on top of MPC purchase, but worth it. And it is updated a lot to. So make sure you add that to your costs for these features. That and RAM and CF card or hard drive (or both like me) if MPC does not have em. It helps to have these things.

Look I think this is not the way to switch pads and patterns at all. Sequences are changed for say backing drums or whatever sequence of samples you want to play in time. But also you have the tracks all with different programs you make., So just change track. Pattern to Pad is now just changed to save the set up of pads in a program now. So all you do is change tracks to choose a different program instead of changing programs. This is much better way to go, and you will see this when you get one. This has shorcuts to, so you can always quickly go to any track and its program, be it samples or PCs and CCs. So have it all, and also can use footswitch to change tracks to.

So in your case, yes, you need say a few programs on a few tracks and simply swap tracks to get that program you made. One say for samples, one for CCs and PCs ect with no samples.

you can make any track into a pattern and then assign it, so yes you can. you just gotta make it. So this is different to the pad being a CC or PC, its more of a pro tip thing, where you can make your own things and go mental
