ye, that's what I said in first post it will be restricted use in Multi, as it will only work on channel specified in "button" page. Multi setting direct MIDI input to predefined channels 1-16 as tracks. And no it's not creating a pause, more likely a "click" sound if anything.

uhm ye, whatever way you choose it will always need some work, it's not the machine that will guess what you want to do keeping everybody satisfied at push of a button

it would be nice to be able to use the 16 pads built into the mpc to set 16th notes on and off in a 4 measure step sequencing environment...

i can see now that ill need to make chops after all... something i was trying not to do. im sure it will yield a better result anyway. i was just trying to get away with using 1 pad instead of many... you can trigger the sound less that way too so you know whats going on easier. sort of. you get my drift im sure.
