What do i have ?

Hello guys, I bought a black MPC 1K today. I'm trying to figure out what's it's OS and what i should do next. No CF card came with it, so i bought a 2GB card on Amazon, which i'll get in two days.
When i start the machine (and when i press [MODE] + [PAD 10 - OTHER]), i see it's got JJOS3 version 1.09.
So what ?
I was looking at the JJ comparison chart, and OS3 seems pretty good.
To get the most out of my MPC1000, should i get OS2 ? What do i need to do ?

First you need to download the Free 3.16 version and install it.

That will allow you to install OS2XL. Once you have that installed, you can install OS3 but check the comparison chart carefully to see which features from either you might want.

Also OS2XL is free to install but you have to pay to be able to save. You get a discount though since you already have OS1

Go to SAVE mode and check do you see folders.
If you see them and you are able to save this means you have all OS upgrades and you can switch to whatever OS you want.

Woops, thought OP said he had OS1. If you already have OS3 scratch everything I said.

I don't see files in [SAVE] mode. What should i do ? PS I'm still waiting for my FC card to come in the mail.

ahh you don't have any storage.. well, you got to have one to see folders lol sorry..
as you will get a card, format it in MPC save/load mode, and try to save anything. If you can - this means you have a license.. if you see few digit code - you don't have one
I'm writing this because I don't know how it reacts without any card inside.

The fact that i don't see the files, doesn't this mean that i don't have 2xl ? And that i have to get it ?
If so, the question is what maneuver i have to follow to install 2xl (after i get my CF card).

You don't have any storage medium: HD, CF. Wait until you will have it. You won't be able to load OS without it anyway

Hey Bugfix,
I really need your help to get started and understand this OS thing.
I got my FC card in the mail. I tried to format it. The card had nothing on it ; it's new. When i pressed MODE + LOAD or SAVE, then F3 USB, the DO IT button wasn't there.
So i tried step 2. I connected the MPC to my Mac, and in the Finder, i added a file containing WAV files of shots, one-hits and loops to the FC card. It worked. I disconnected the usb cable. And i was able to find the files on the MPC and actually play them.

So in terms of the OS, what does this mean ? As a reminder, i have OS3 version 1.09. What do i need to do to have a functional JJOS ? Do i already have one ? ETC.

load your samples and then save an entire project. If you can save then you have all the licenses.

Hello again, I really need some help. I'm trying to read the manual. But it's more than 100 pages, and will take a while. I'm not sure i understand what "saving a project" is or how to do it.

I've played around with it. I can only save samples, programs, on the CF card. My Autoload is off, and i've tried to turn it on and i can't. I don't know why, i can never access the hard disk, even though it says it has 128MB when i turn on the machine.

I'd really like someone to give me a simple procedure to see if this thing works and if i have a license.

I did this test on my RAM. At least i know it's working 100%. And i got my Autoload working too.

128MB is RAM not HD. HD is visible in load/save if installed and working. You don't have to read whole manual to make autoload.. it's just 1 or 2 sentences. Look for it, don't wait for us to give it to you
