Does MPC JJOSXL have anything like Roland's RPS?

Id like very much to take some MIDI and assign it to pad 1 (EG)

Then when I hit pad 1 the MIDI will start from the beginning. If I repeatedly hit Pad 1 the MIDI will restart QUANTISED to the overall MPC clock. Ie in time with any other Pad I assign MIDI this way too and in time with anytime already playing in the sequence.

If it can do the above i'm very happy. But let me be greedy. How about I can now assign one shot samples and loops (ok so the BPMs have to be matched) Yes I know this is pretty much what a sample does IE you repeatedly hit key and sample starts from beginning (I know you can trigger same sample 32 times but thats not the normal way) but again is there a way to quantise this?

Any help appreciated.

You could use samples as patched phrases to trigger sample that are chopped recycle style to stay beat matched regardless of tempo
I don't know if you can have the triggers tempo synced, but it isn't too hard to practice and do so live
As for midi, I think that's what program mode is for but I can't seem to figure it out myself, I haven't been able to use it yet, I would love it if someone could chime in on that.

I've never used this - but what about creating a pattern (manual p.62) and assigning it to a pad (p.17). It might not be what you mean but sounds like it could be close.

Right pattern mode, not program mode is what I was thinking of

Wow just tried reading through the pattern part of that manual! Mind blown.
It doesn't help that I am trying to understand what the manual is trying to say on top of how to use the functions, but it still seems crazy deep this whole pattern thing!
Can anyone offer any insight as to the best use of the pattern mode?

Thanks for ideas. Yeah I looked at pattern mode but Ive no idea what it does. I have dyslexia what doesn't help the manual at all.

I think the key thing is if you can assign MIDI to a pad (IE a phrase of MIDI) then you would hit the pad to start the phrase then hit it again to stop. IE NOT hit it and it play from start to Finnish as that no diff to mute/unmuting.

In my way your affectively playing keys but instead of playing samples or synth sounds via MIDI your playing MIDI phrases locked to global clock. One phrase to each key. So channel 1 on pad on channel 2 on pad two. This is how the Roland RPS works on my MC808 and I'm blown away by it. Thing is it doesn't output MIDI.

yeah it should do midi out, I use pattern to pad and make ones that are just midi CCs, no notes., and assign out. That is probably what your missing you have not set the target track and then set up the target track to go to what ever midi channel you want. Good fun and yeah you can do some good stuff with it. Just remember you have 200 bar limit.
