MTC Sync in Cubase

I'm trying to track in Cubase. I have everything set up so that when I press play on the MPC it plays in Cubase, so I think I have everything synced properly.

The problem I'm having is I'll press record in Cubase, then play on the MPC and nothing records, the record button in Cubase goes off.

Maybe I just don't know Cubase well enough. Can someone help me out?

yea, i'm having the identical thing with logic 5.2, not sure what it is- dying to track this tune out- anyone?

Try setting Cubase as the master and the MPC1k as the slave. Then you press record on Cubase and it should all be good.

Works fine with Cubase for me having Sx as the slave. Only problem tho is that each pass I record is slightly earlier each time progressivly.

I did a test recording the metronome. Did about 10 passes and each one got earlier and earlier. Even tried shutting the mpc on and off. Probably something on the computer end then.

You need to make your multi-tracker be the master. thats the only way i know of to get tight timing. It makes sense when you think about it, the master is keeping the clock, and for all counts and purposes the mpc1k clock isnt that wonderful, especially considering that the MTC function is pretty new. Even with the 4k (which has a much better clock) you get some ammount of drift when you set it up as the master for multi-tracking. Thats just something you have to live with with MPCs.
If you HAVE to have the mpc as master, you could also play with the pre-record and pre-latency settings but you would have to change those every time you wanted to record a tune at a different tempo.

no u need to give it some time. mtc takes a few messages to go down before it can start. it sends out the hours, minutes, seconds and frames all as separate strings of data.

If I set Cubase as the master, then I lose the timing of the MPC right? I lose the swing.
