Activation and product ID

It does not say anywhere that you have to install the 4.xx before buying it, perhaps it should be entered clearly in the manual, I already suggested to do it on the webpage too.
For me a bit against common sense since I wouldnt install OS until having all necessary to work with it. Specially if it takes few days to get the password.

if you dont like the method then dont buy it..

48 hours is what JJ states as the maximum time it may take to send you a password (as not to dissapoint anyone if it's not sent immediately). But normally, it could take only a few minutes or hours on average.

No need for hysteria, they do their job, buyers pay, nothing amazing about it

I didnt see anywhere the information that to be able to get the OS you have to install it, get the ID number , install again 2 or 3.06 till you get the activation code.
Now at least someone new will be able to read it on this forum.

Theres no need to downgrade while waiting for the activation code. Just keep it on the MPC, experiment with the added features, and you'll have the code sent to you before you know it (more than likely before you're finshed experimenting). Then you'll be able to save your work, once you enter the code. It's better to go through all the added features and become familiar with them before actually making any music worth saving. Trust that!

What I am saying is that it is not written anywhere that you have to install the OS.4xx get that ID then pay. So on that webpage should be clearly written
1. install 4.xx
2. press Save
3. note and enter the ID
4. transfer the money.
It took I think 2 days till they received the money ( I believe it was Paypal fault) but once they confirmed receiving the money it was rather quick. Just that they ask for ID and I had no clue what ID they want, searched this forum then some friendly spirit must have whispered in my ear "install 4.13 " and.......... Lo I found the damn ID and sent it, meanwhile banging some wicked beats and there was no way I would switch MPC off and loose them. It didnt take more then hour and the code was there and I could save my obra preciosa

Well there is no other way around, because the machine ID of every MPC is different - speaking it is generated by the OS you install on it. So there's a very simple logic behind the registration procedure: No install = no generated Machine ID = no unlock serial available. This meansm that you by any means cannot buy the OS BEFORE installing it...
And Anyway: what's the issue about not wanting to install the OS before the serial arrives?????????????? If you want to save so badly, just install the new OS, wright down the Product ID and then just switch back to the AKAI OS until your serial has arrived... Mine was there in about 2 hours or so.

There is no issue! just that there is no any info about the whole procedure, I made this thread so that some fellow like me will have it easier, perhaps good idea that you include it the manual

Ok, I understand the machine ID is different for every other MPC. But what about the same machine. If the new OS has to generate an ID every time you install it, does it generate the same ID every time or a different one? If the machine ID is different on every install, then that means the activation code would be different and you'd have to pay for every install right? For instance. If I bought the new OS, registered it, and used it for a while then decide for some strange reason to go back to the official Akai OS and decide later that I won't to reinstall and use the new JJ OS again and the generated machine ID is different from what it was the first time I installed it, my old activation code from the previous install wouldn't work and I'd have to pay again for a new activation code for the same OS for the same machine. I hope the generated machine ID is always the same. Afterall, it would only make sense if a machine ID for a single machine is constant and not randomly generated.

AFAIK you can go to Akai OS 2 and back without any problem the OS is only for the particular machine though. You would loose the licence if you change the machine, like warranty replacement or whatever.

I've read somewhere on JJ's site that it's possible to downgrade to Akai's OS and reinstall the JJ OS without having to enter the password again. At the time I read that, I tested it out and it worked with no problems.

That's great then!! I guess I'll just go ahead and buy another 1000 so I can enjoy the benefits of the new JJ OS. I had a 1000 earlier but traded it in for a synth because I was disappointed in it's limitations at the time (back in 2005) compared to the 2000xl. Now I wish I had kept it. But it's all good. I have to opportunity to get me a black one now as I like the look of the black ones better. Based on what I've read about the new OS and the hard drive capability, the MPC1000 is one heck of a machine now compared to what it used to be when it was first released---definitely not a toy.

moorekv - yeah, definitely buy the black model. you're gonna love it with the JJ OS.
