Grid Edit....Im not gettin it

I cant figure out how to work this properly Ive read through the manual but with no luck. I want to move for instance a snare forward or back can I do this? maybe a quick tip? Am I missin something here?

If it is placed on the wrong 16th i know no other way than deleting the note and entering it at the right position, thats what i do.

Anyone else?

highlight the note. press overdub. hold shift and press the up cursor button. move cursor to the number in brackets next to the sequence position (eg highlight the red bit 001.02.00( 0 ))) move data wheel. that will only give you 11 ticks each way, but it's better than nothing!

ok, if you do what i said, but do it in midi mode, it works fine.

i don't often use 6 mode grid edit (i will soon but meanwhile i do everything in 16 cuz i like to see as much as possible).

what i do is this - set 1 qlink to swing and the other to shift.

record my pattern w/ shift at 0 and swing at some gentle level
then i go back and listen for what needs to be moved. i delete individual notes, adjust the qlinks to get better timing, and then play it again - if it works, on to the next note that needs more attitude. if it doesn't, i hit stop and flip the data wheel back however many increments i need to.

this way i never need to leave 16 pad grid edit

The best way i think is to do what rinseout said.. but then again, you could also play your snare again.. the both process take about equal time..

nice technique again @ antonym.. but mostly i like to do my snare with some TC and kick/hats with TC off.. actually, i first play my snare and sometimes a basic hat or kick. Then i play my sample.. after that i just delete the kick and/or hat and play it with tc off.. always get a nice groove by doing that.. it only took me some time to perfect my own internal TC if you know what i mean

perhaps JJ could code 'personality patches' for the timing correct so you could save a template of your playing style, and you could, like, sell them on the internet.
