Ring modulators are mostly used in synthesizers. They combine or heterodyne two waveforms, and output the sum and difference between the two. This process of ring modulation, which also amplitude modulation, produces a signal rich in overtones, suitable for producing bell-like or otherwise metallic sounds.

let's say you have 2 sound sources (A is a 500hz wave, B is a 300 hz wave ).
both are plugged in the ring modulator inputs .
the output signal is a combination of A-B & A+B (200hz & 800hz)

people talk about the sp1200's ring modulation. i guess i may just need to play with the feature. i know i like the sound but i'm not too experienced with it.

i imagine all this will sound good in autochromatic programs, synthbuilding and whatnot from inside the mpc...

very exciting. i love these offline, 1 time only effects that jj is putting into the mpc recently, they're great.

i dont see how hes still adding all this stuff to the mpc. The guy has gone mad. I cant wait to check out the ring mod.
