Thanks the MPC forum I have finally got my motif synched to the MP......sweet. Ok, someone on the Future Producer forum helped too but whatever.

As usual with this stuff, solving a problem means that you now have new problems and questions ;-)

1) Let's say I recorded a midi performance on a given track (e.g piano) but now I want to record another midi track but want to use a different sound (eg organ).

With my current set up the Motif plays back whatever sound is currently selected so if I change the selected sound then the piano plays back as an organ too!

What are the workarounds for this? Should I resample the piano performance to audio and assign to a pad?

I have heard of sysex....would this allow me to playback different sounds other than the selected sound? I have searched the Motif manual and can't find any info on sysex (will try Motifator tonight).

Can someone explain the principle of sysex and let me know if I am on the right track?

2) Time Control applies to midi performance too right? So for recording keys I should probably switch TC off (otherwise it sounds stiff).
Do you guys switch TC off too when recording midi strings/keys or whatever?

the motif (I guess) is a multitimbral synth, you should be able to set each program to its own midi channel and then set the MPC tracks to the required MIDI channel (and out port) to play the sounds you want on the motif.

This has nothing to do with Sysex, but rather midi settings per programme (motif) and per track (mpc) and , if anything, programme change and bank change midi events.

TC on sounds stiff indeed. Set it off if you prefer.

Many thanks Freezerman, I will look into using different channels.

Actually I'm looking at the Motif manual now.

Cheers.
