It's not that you need OS1 ... you need the latest version of OS1 to install OS2. I had the same problem until I updated my OS1.

I'm still using OS1 4.90 and it let me install OS2 just fine

Yeah, I think you need 4.9x and above for it to work if I remember correctly.

EDIT...

Now the website says you need 4.94 or higher, but i think that is only when you are ready to enter your password.

the 4.= pitch vel = pitch, how is that found in JJos1 (4.9x)?

i can get to it - haven't been able to for ages - sure it was around in jj os at some point way back when, by "window" on pitch details in program editor pages......as was in akai os.

edit, dubl doh, only looked in gpe, not 'riginal pe'
